Elwood Res & Tri County canal fishing

Just a short report here this time, fellas. Went to the canal on Friday and jigged up 10 crappies, some of them were real decent. Didn’t keep any of them, but sure was fun jigging them up. That’s only going to pick up as the water temp dropped. Tried trolling, nothing doing.

Saturday, I hit Elwood and trolled around the perimeter of the entire lake, practically. Caught one white bass on a Flicker shad. Then anchored on a hump and finally caught a fish (small wiper) on one of those Lytle Secrets, only this one was the Jorgenson version of the Secret, and it worked! Still have some work to do on them, though. Also pulled spinners over lots of humps and points, and it took a while, but one of the crawlers finally got hammered, but I didn’t catch the fish. Then Jim, my partner for the King Kat Classic at Milford KS this upcoming weekend, showed up with blood and our first fish was this nice 15.01 pounder caught by Flo, a German exchange student at Elwood. What a thrill to have that be his first fish….ever! This fish was released immediately as well. Jim hauled in one about 2lbs, and we missed a few more, including one that bent my 10′ rod over quite a bit. When I went to set the hook, my rod broke, losing the fish as well. What a downer. Oh well, better then than in the tourny! Wish us luck!
