Knowing that pool 8 was going to be a mess after all the flooding, the morning was started on the Black River looking for some clean water. The bite was good but nothing of any size was found by me. The gills and eyes are smacking a chunk of crawler in 5-12fow. The crappies and perch were pounding a Swedish Pimple tipped with a minnow head in 15-20fow. Every where I went on the Black, there was something taking the bait. It was a great way to start the morning but the Mighty and Muddy Mississippi kept calling my name. Without being able to take it any longer, things were packed up and the boat was headed down the Black and onto the main channel around 10:00am.
The main channel was as bad as I imagined. The water is like chocolate milk with a lot of floating grass/weeds and 2 more trees bobbin’ along There was no way that a bite would be found in the area I wanted to start in, so a scouting trip was in the making. The first spot to produce Channel Cats was along an undercut bank a few hundred yards long with a lot of trees overhanging into 20-25fow water. There was plenty of current and the trolling motor was used to slow the bait down some. It was working and the action was a blast. High noon, who would have thought
The same rig I have been using all year (see the last four weeks reports) is still doing it’s thing The second spot to produce Channel Cats, and finish off the 5 gills worth of cut bait kept, was a current seem in 25-30fow water. This current seem is caused by a rock point that comes off the back side of an Island then jets out towards the Channel. Not all the cats I caught were picture worthy but they sure saved the day and made for some fun in the sun, yep I said SUN
For those of you looking for White Bass the faster current flow has them on the feed also. They are busting surface on the wing dams with good flow over the top. I did not join in on the fun but did see a few boats catching some nice sized fish. As long as you keep your eyes wide opened and take your time there is some good fishing going on despite the last couple of weeks rain fall.
Be safe and good luck fishin’
Did I mention the sun was out

Good job Bret! I’m glad to hear the crappies are in the secret spot right now!
Nice report and some great looking cats….again
Very cool. I am pretty sure those cat up there won\\\’t be safe until first ice. Nice tactics and report Bret.
