Channel Catfishing with Bret Clark with Video

SummerTime Channel Catfishing can be such a great time, but when you really get into them it can be an awesome time. I had the opportunity to head out with Bret Clark for some awesome Channel Catfishing. This summer Bret has really concentrated on finding the cats and he sure has them dialed in.

The technique we are using is simple and very in-expensive. I think the bait costs more than the circle hooks and swivels. Cut bait was definately the key for us that night. We would fillet a sucker just like the way you would fillet a walleye. We concentrated on tips of wingdams along a current seam. These areas will hold a good concentration of fish and it definately paid off.

What made the night even more enjoyable is using spinning gear for these muscle fish. Catfish never want to give up and it seems as though they are always digging for bottom. If anyone has never fished at night you should give it a try. With hardly no boat traffic on the river it makes the night very peaceful and relaxing.

Here is the video we produced with Bret

  1. Excellent video. Makes me want to go out catfishing soon. The video clearifies the rig and technique you use. Really been enjoying those reports while the walleyes seem to be in lock jaw mode. keep them coming.

  2. I watched the video last night and forgot to come back here…Bret..dang! You’ll fish with anybody!

Andy’s a pretty good guy…(when he has his nurse along)

    Ok, nuff shots.

You guys made that look easy. So easy I’m working on getting my trolling motor fixed for drifting!

  3. Thanks guys.
Brian, now that was funny. I’m sure Wade will come up with a good comeback, so you best be ready.

  4. I just cut up a dozen nice suckers and got them on ice. I’m heading for the St Croix and some channel cat drifting. Bret made this look so easy and he fired me up. Great job, Bret.

  5. Thank you Steve DeMars for putting up the report last year and making me try some thing new on the water. This has become a favorite method for taking Channel Cats in my boat

Thanks to everyone that took the time to watch and reply, this method I’m sure will work on any river.

I had a Blast Andy and Wade
