Lower Mississippi Pool 4 Bass

Mississippi Burning…the river bass are on fire! All of a sudden the ideal size shad are everywhere and the bass are loading-up. My guest on Monday were couple of my regulars, Mark and his daughter Leslie Collins. Mark is from Rochester and Leslie is a Nursing Student in the Twin Cities. We started the day on some wing dams but got diverted schools of stripers busting shad.

After a half hour of striper it was back to the wing dams with limited success this decent largemouth came just as we were about to give-up on a spot. We bounced from wing dams to sand and eelgrass and decided the best bite was in the grass.

As we moved from area-to-area it was pretty easy to predict where we would be successful. If you found the pods of 3-4” shad in an area the bass were nearby.

All of our presentations were horizontal. The 2.5” Mimic Minnow was the hot lure in open water and a white swimjig in the vegetation. We did catch some striper and largemouth bass on a Berkley Frenzy Popper. All I can add is if you find the shad you can probably catch em any way you want. Now is a great time to hit the river for some great bass action.
