Mille Lacs Lake fishing report 6-14-07

The walleye fishing continues to be really good on Mille Lacs Lake. I think this year will go down as one of the top years for fish caught. The numbers are good, the size may vary one day to the next. But the bite is hot!!! This past couple of weeks I have spent most of my time fishing the lower third of the lake. This section of the lake has what many call the east or west gravel areas. This section of the lake has been kicking out some really nice numbers.

I have been pulling blades and crawlers. Its a blast when the blade bite goes on Mille Lacs! Its fun when a healthy walleye tries to pull the rod out of your hand!! The fish really like to go after that spinning blade. Blowing air in the worm has allowed me to float my rig over some of the gravel/rocky bottoms. The fish have been most activite in the mid-morning hours of 7am-10am. The 26-31 fow has been the depth that has held fish for me.

Many of my guide clients have enjoyed taking home some nice slot fish. A long with a little catch and release with some pretty hefty 23-27 inch fish. These are great fish for the fight and photo prior to the release. These upper 20 inch fish have been really putting on some good fight pulling them into the boat!!

The first photo in my report has Roger and Gary holding our 12 slots caught the other day. These gentlemen hired me to get them on track for their weeks vaction on Mille Lacs. Hiring a guide to show you the how too is a smart thing to do! It will cost you some up front, but will give some great benifits in return with how you might want to target your fish while on your own later on. I know they had some big plans for a fish fry that evening.

If you have not made the trip up to Mille Lacs yet this summer. Please do so, and come and enjoy some of the best walleye fishing that this area has to offer.
