Mississippi River Pool 4 Walleye Report 6-9-07

Well were to start I have been on the water for nine straight days WOW. That is all I have to say. Pool 4 has a very good walleye bite going right now.

This past week has been a real blast.

I was blessed with good company everyday out. Thank you to all whom joined me the past nine days.

I have mostly stuck to dragging jigs with live bait. How ever we took some fish on plain hair and also casting some crank baits to dams.

This first photo is of a 25 pound kitty we took out of 3 feet of water on a jig and crawler. This fish hit like a freight train and stripped out 30 feet of line in a blink of an eye, boy the boat went into a fire drill Mike was with and was he busy clearing lines and the chase was on.

Hey BK I caught this on 8 lb test at 2:00 in the afternoon with a full sun………and she was smiling at me the whole time while in the boat.

This next fish is a nice 26 incher that Mike pulled on a jig and crawler on the edge of a nice sand break.

The last few days the wind has really played a factor in boating these fish. It has made it very difficult for the boat control which basically just means I had to work my butt off on the troller.

If the water keeps warming the bite should just get better.

With that being said this is the mighty Mississippi and she can always throw you a curve ball.

The water has been rising the last couple days which will change a few things. But hopefully we can follow the pattern.

We have been targeting current seams and shallow water with sand, wood and clams. I think that we boated over ten clams in the past week.

Here is another 25 incher that we jigged out of some wood.

This fish really put up a great fight in this shallow water.

These fish have been getting more agressive all week.

With some stable weather I suspect the bite to get better.

I have one more day and back to work. Thats OK though my hands need a break, man handling all these fish does take its toll on the paws.

Mike and I spent sometime pitching bucktails to some shallow water areas.

Here is a kitty that fell prey to his brown bucktail. This fish was up in less then a foot of water. In the middle of the day.

Ok sure it is just a baby but you tell Mike that it fought like a big one.

Thank-you Dean for the great tips and awesome live bait.

Also for all the down home hospitality

When I'm not fishing or working I'm looking for nitecrawlers...and Tournament Angler for the past 20 plus years.

  1. I ran into Mike Donahoe and he need a photo taken of a 25 incher he had just caught.
He was trolling cranks and here is a nice eye.

  2. Here is one more 25 incher that we found today.

It was a great day on the water and Pool 4 is really starting to ignite so get out and enjoy the great weather and wet a line.

Take care and hope to see you on the water.

All fish were photoed and released today.

Dont let the dark side of the force get you Luke/Greg

  4. Sounds like a great vacation Bud. And some very nice fish too. Great to see Mike is back on the water with you. Thanks for the report and pics.
    Thanks, Bill

  5. Don’t worry I can see the light.

only BK can handle the dark side.

Those kitty’s are too hard on the arms. dang junk fish anyway….Brian wished you would train them to leave the walleye baits alone.
