36 bullheads, two brothers and seven cats…Mike and Sean went home with a couple big smiles and a photo of this 40 pound cat!
June 8th shook out to be a BEAUTIFUL evening on the river! As our boat motored slowly away from the docks at Everts Resort, I was going through the night fishing safety list with the guys and just couldn’t help but notice the beauty of the area…all the trees are green and the waters a fantastic shade of dark blue! I take these sights for granted way too much!
Slight breeze to keep the skeeters at bay, but warm enough to be very comfortable. Just after getting the rods set up and in the water, the first run came. Mike landed the first cat of the night early. Unfortunately we had a camera malfunction and the 14 pounder…well…got a way. Sean was up next with the smallest of the night, a four/five pound practice fish.
Mike was up again…but it was time to move. Just not enough action in our A spot. Our B spot was occupied by two fellas and a young lady…It always brings a smile to my face when the guys bring their girl friends/wives along. The evening generally becomes a lifetime memory for them…even if they don’t get over the dark, bugs and bats!
We move to our C spot. It wasn’t very long and Mike had his hands full bringing in this 17 pounder pictured here.
We had a little lull in the action…but it went by fast talking about our Favorite Wives… Then it was back to fishing as the line out alarm brought us back to fishing. Here’s Sean with his 20 pounder. The largest of the night so far.
Not to be out done by his brother, Mike worked the St Croix Premier rod well to get the Monster of the Night to the boat…Here’s Mike with his 40 and some change fish! While we were getting ready to release her…the rod behind him gets hit…another 14 pounder in the boat!
Pre spawn is on here on P3 and 4 of the Mississippi! I know this to be a fact as my hands and fingers are pretty scratched up today!
Saturday is the one day of the week I set aside for the Favorite Wife. We’ll be making or regular Saturday night trip to the Bungalow in Lakeland for our Grilled Prime Rib…but the Favorite Wife knows that my mind with be with the flatheads of the Mississippi tonight! I really looking forward to the trips over the next three to four weeks!
I would say “see ya on the water”…but it’s usually too dark!
That amount of fish biting in one night is a very good night, you must have a honey hole Briank! If thats a number 2 or 3 spot i’d like to fish in your number 1 spot and i know it would be hard to tell just anybody where it is. Thats a decent nights fishing for flats forsure.
wow, nice report and pic’s. Those fish would have won a tourney down here today.
Awesome way to go BK
I know a little lady that is going to get all giddy when I show her this report Brian. Nice job
Very nice fish Brian. Glad to see you back in action. Thanks for the report and pics Bud.
Thanks, Bill
