Clear Lake IA Walleyes and Silvers

My wife called me at work yesterday and said I want to go fishing. Now it was hard for me to take time off my busy schedule lol.But I am glad I did as it was one of my best outings this year and my first on the lake. The walleyes and silvers were on a feeding binge.

We tried the shallow 5 ft range early and no results then moved out to 9 to 11 ft and bingo. We tried a variety of baits and found that the #5 firetiger shadrap trolled a foot off bottom at 2.5 mph was by far the ticket. We fished from 2 to 5.30 and had our limit of 16.5 to 18.5 in walleye and a few nice silvers.

I harvested these fish for the table as the freezer was empty and I will be pre fishing the next 3 weeks for tournys on the lake and will not be taking the time for fish cleaning.I was really surprised on how clear the lake was yet which was probally why we found fish deeper than what I normally fish this time of year. I am happy to say that we also got some good year classes of fish coming up as we caught many short walleye and silvers. The lake should be good this year and for the next couple years are looking good.

Ussually people ask me on my reports hows the yellows doing and right now they are excellent on the rocks.small twisters, small minnows., cut bait, or piece of crawler. I would not overlook the rushes and cattails for crappie either as the water is 69 and everything is approaching spawn.I am looking forward to the next couple weeks as the yellows will be done spawning and will be scattered around the lake and decent numbers will come trolling cranks.
