I headed up to Sherman Reservoir for some good action this last weekend and had a great time and caught some decent fish. I fished Saturday morning on the big islands. The ice was a little scetchy getting out there with the three wheeler but we were able to find a safe route. Some areas of of the main lake were a little thin yet with a lot of slush on top. They should be good to go now with the temps the last few nights. In fact the entire lake should be good for ATV use this next weekend.
I fished Saturday morning with my friends Todd and Josh in persuit of walleyes. Using my H2O with a Navionics chip I was able to find a couple nice areas just off the west side of the islands. We quickly punched a bunch of holes at different depths along the break. I was really hoping to mark a few fish but we didn’t see a single mark while depth checking. We were begining to wonder if we came to the wrong area of the lake. I had some confidence that this area should hold fish as it holds fish nearly all of the open water season. We decided to do some hole hopping for a little bit and see what happens. It only took Todd about 30 seconds with a spoon to hook up with the first fish of the day. It was a fat 17 walleye. Shortly after each of us would drop our baits we would mark fish. We had a hard time getting them interested and then 15 minutes after the firtst eye Todd got another eye. This time it was a nice 18 1/2 inch keeper. Soon after that I missed a nice one and then it went dead. We stayed in the area another hour before deciding the 35 MPH winds were to much to take.
We spent Saturday afternoon in one of the bays out of the wind. We concentrated our efforts on a couple diferent breaks that have been productive for us in the past. Action was a little slow and I did a lot of moving around. Fishing holes for only 5-10 minutes each. After fishing outside in the wind all day I set up my Trap Pro on the bottom of a break in 16 FOW. I couldn’t have picked a better area for the evening bite. At 5:30 it seemed as if someone flipped the "bite switch" to "on". I was using a 1/8 oz. Go Devil tipped with a minnow when the action started with a dandy 28 inch pike. Fish were filling the bottom 4 feet of my vexilar as I quickly caught several nice crappie. Then it was time for some walleye action. I caught a nice 18 inch keeper and 4 more that were between 16-17 inches. I lost a nice eye at the bottom of the whole and had another big pike or big walleye cut me off on the hook set. Then shortly after 6:30 everything went dead. I was still marking some fish but they had no interest in anything I tried. Todd and Josh struggled to catch only a few fish durring the flurry but a couple other anglers in the area did well also.
Sunday morning my friends Andy and Brian joined me and we were a little slow getting out to the lake. We headed to the same area that was good for me the night before. It was 10:00 and while we were getting set up Andy caught a 17 inch walleye on a tip-up and soon after that another and another. I had to leave at noon and Andy and Brian were planning on staying for the afternoon and the evening bite. They did really well each catching a limit of walleyes and a nice pike and a handfull of crappie. They had steady action all day and another good flurry of action from 5:30 to 6:30.
We had a good time with lots of fish caught. I didn’t get a lot of pics as my camera batteries died on me and the other guys didn’t have a camera with them. We plan to head back up there for this weekend too. Hopefully we are on another great bite.
Great Report.
You guys get them all spooning or did some bobber rigs work too? Just curious I guess.
Nice report thanks for sharing Ben…
Great report Ben! Thanks
Ben it looks as if guys did put the hammer down on some nice fish…. Wish I could of made it along but I had too many things going on Sunday to make it for the two day trip. Hopefully this time I will get along and the action will be hot once again. Great pics!

Way to Go Ben
Thanks for the report Ben!
Great report Ben, thanks for sharing.

The fish weren’t too picky. Sat. night I was using a Go Devil and on Sun. Andy and Brian were using tip ups and 1/4 Swedish Pimples. They caught the majority on tip ups but the jigging rods kept them busy too.
I’m Jealous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here’s a few pictures I got from Andy of their Sunday limit. This first one is the biggest of the day. It was 28 inches and Andy’s heaviest walleye ever. She will be hanging in the living room before too long.
I had to scan these pics to get them on the computer. That’s why they are not the best quality.
