Deep Water Jigging On Lake Zumbro

If you ”like” jigging for walleyes then you will ”love” jigging for deep water stripers. The fight is much better and its sooooooo much fun seeing a nice big bend in your rod.

After stopping at Hooked On Fishing in Rochester to make sure I had everything I needed I headed out to Lake Zumbro with some nice big stripers in my mind. Everyone raves about a hot bite in August but catching them, and finding the big ones, is a different story in November.

The fish are deep and on the bottom which some anglers don’t like but when found they are a blast catching them vertical jigging. Again I went with bucktail jigs and a crappie minnow. Its been a provin winner so I used the technique that has been catching fish.

With the air temps in the 50s its a great time to get out on the water. Fish are hungry and us fishermen need a few more open water fishing fixs before hard water gets here so nows the time to be on the water. I hope to see you there.

Thanks, Bill

  1. Bill, NICE report, and some NICE stripers. I had been trying to decide between Evert’s or Zumbro for tomorrow and you’re swaying my decision
I too, will have to stop at HOF for some bait so we’ll see if Mike is willing to share the secret bucktail color Any sunnies or crappies today?

  2. Just stripers Frank. Mike will not be working tomorrow as he and Ron [RHW] will be fishing with me on Lake Zumbro. Hope to see you out there.
    Thanks, Bill

  3. Looked for you today Frank but didn’t see you. In the report from todays outting [11-5-06] Mike and Ron caught some smaller crappies and some nice gills on Mini-Mites. Even northern and stripers liked them too. My fish came on bucktails with a crappie minnow.
    Thanks, Bill
