As the water temps keep falling the jig bite continues to heat up. I did start the day trolling cranks to see if I could pop some bigger fish. The eyes have not been active chasing crankbaits though. There is still some good action on pike and white bass if you don’t want to put the cranks away yet. My best luck has come running Reef Runners and jointed Raps. Anything close to craw color worked the best today. Running the baits 8 ft down over 11 to 13 ft of water has been working the past few outings.
With no eyes coming on cranks, I switched to jigging. Once I found the preferred depth, the action was solid. These fish are really starting to smack the presentation. Hair jigs and minnows proved to be my best presentation today. Darker colored jigs fished aggressively in 11 to 13 ft of water put some decent fish in the boat.
As the day wore on and the wind picked up, the bite did die off some. The warmer temps forcasted for the next few days, should make for some pleasant fishing. Photo 1, a couple for fry pan. Photo 2, watching the starboard side board. Photo 3, released to fight another day. Have fun and I will see you on the water.
Nice report Don!
I love the pics Those are some healthy fish. I really like the watchful eye on the starboard side board
