”HOF Gone Wild” On Lake Zumbro Crappies

Lake Zumbro was the place to be as Crappie Mike [HOF] went wild and put on a show on how to catch crappies today. Read on to see how this ”panfish geru” caught crappies and bluegills like there was no end.

After trying a couple new spots and only caught a few we motored over to one of our favorite spots. The bullgills were there to greet us and make us feel right at home. After several hours of catching them I was getting anxious to catch some crappies and sure enough after saying that the crappies finally showed up. Between the gills and the crappies we were kept pretty busy. [Mike was busy catching fish after fish while I kept busy catching some too [not nearly what he caught] and taking pics of Mike and his catch. [I now know why Mike likes to run my front trolling motor as he gets the best postion.] LOL!

If you have read any of our reports before its no secret as to what lure we were using. Those Mini-Mites just can’t be beat. While Mike was busy catching fish I tried several other lures to see if I could catch fish at the rate he was but nothing I tried worked like those Mini-Mites did. Not even close. Mike even tried to experiment alittle too but with the greatly reduced catch rate it wasn’t long before he switched back. We fish the baits/lures under a float [bobber] and hook a waxie to the lure and cast it out to the area we want it to be at and let it wiggle its tail to torment the fish to the point of biting. These lures sure know how to wiggle. lol.

Today was a beautiful day to be on the water. It was a sunny day for most part and around 60 degrees air temp in the afternoon to match the afternoon water temp of 60 also. Fall fishing is just starting and the next couple of months will be a great time to be on the water. Hope to see you on the water and stay tuned for the next outtings report on ”HOF GONE WILD.”

Thanks, Bill

ps. hey Mike….do you think just ”maybe” next time I could get you to hold the camera at least one time? lol.

    ”HOF GONE WILD.”

Whew! I was afraid to open this report up Bill! I thought Mike was going to be flipping up his shirt!

Thank you Mike for not sharing!

It’s after midnight and I now have a taste for some crunchy panfish! Wonder if I wake the FW???? Better not!

  2. That should about cover it!! Wow you guys sure are takin it to the edge with this one, insinuating (sp?) Mike is going girls gone wild in the boat and throwing in waking the wife up to cook, walkin on thin ice I think. Good job guys!!!

  3. Mike,

Could you post how you can pull off the ninja death grip on the back fish in your picture. I can never figure out how that crappie floats in mid air

Great report. I need to get the kids out for a little fishing on the Zumbro

  4. You fellas have had an excellent year. Honesty time… I’ve never caught a fish on MM’s. I’ve tried them, but just don’t have the right touch.

  5. Been ALOT of fun Jeff. Getting back to basics fishing makes a person appreciate being on the water more it seems. Much more relaxing too. Oh, I still have to chase eyes on the good o’l Mississippi River but I get extra time on the water by fishing really, like almost next door, close waters around Rochester too. Gives me more of an excuse to go fishing…like if anyone ever needed an excuse.
    Thanks, Bill
