Aug 30th 2006 Big River Flats

In-DepthAngling’s Pro Staff Director, Chris Tuckner…his camera man James Holst and I spent a few hours on Pool 3 last night looking for Mr. Whiskers.

It was another beautiful evening on the river with wood duck zipping along at tree top height and we even had a fox check us out at the landing.

With so much bait in the water right now, these flatsheads just don’t seem to want live bait as much as they did pre spawn and after spawn.

So, we’ve been feeding them with BIG chunks of cut sucker..in fact, just cutting them in two is good enough.

Here’s Chris with the end result of the night. 29lbs minus the net = 26 pounds fighting flathead!

Man, I was getting worried that I was going to have some of Jimmy’s Bait and Tackle’s sucker for a midnight snack!

’nuff talking…let’s watch the video!

  1. Truely a great video. Very nicely done boys! Sorry about the equipment malfunction Brian. It was nice to hear you mention my name. Almost gave yourself a couple uppercuts.

  2. Thanks for the video,

when do you hit the cable channels, I learned more there than watchin years of fishing shows.

  3. Great Job, Guys. Now I know why everytime I go to Jimmy’s the sucker tank is about empty. Mike still manages to fix me up – they have great large suckers.

  4. Nice video!
    Really Nice Fish Mates!
BK glad to see you back in your groove. Excellent presentation and description of gear and tackle and technique.
You all make it look easy!

  5. Thanks for the great video guys!! Make it look easy enough that I couldnt even mess it up (ya right). Sure makes a guy who has never fished for them want to get out and give it a whirl. Good job

  6. cool video, nice to watch one that you actualy get to learn something about fishing instead of 30 mins of selling there sponsers . nice job, enjoyed it , thanks for sharing it .

  7. Now THAT was a fishin’ report! Great presentation and explanation. Just gotta get a shorter camera man for those close ups!

  8. No! Thank YOU Tuck!

There is a great person/catfisherman that once said to me..”I learn from everyone I fish with”…and I’ve fished with you a number of times now…and each time I learn something new….

Rememder the IDA cat contest? You taught me how to sleep in a boat seat without hurting your neck!

Learning doesn’t always have to be about fishing!

  9. That was a great video and really good audio. I think you are getting the hang of this James…
