Lake Zumbro’s Multispecies Fishing Is Still Hot!

Lake Zumbro is still the ”HOT” place to be for some fun multispieces fishing. Whether you are a troller or a casting person you will catch alot of fish. So get your fishing gear ready and be prepared to hear the words ”FISH ON!!!

It was Monday evening and both my 6 year old grandson and I had to urge to catch some fish so off to Lake Zumbro we went. This was to be a night of multispieces fishing so Mitchell could have some fun catching a few different fish. The crappie came towards the end of our evening trolling an area that I know usually holds fish. We were trolling Roostertails from HOF and the crappie were hungry.

Mitchell had never caught a largemouth bass before so we casted Mini-Mite jigs to a rocky point and found some bass. They weren’t large but was a blast watching them jump out of the water as ”Hot Stick Mitchell” reeled them in.

The remainder of the time was spent trolling Roostertails behind the boat catching stripers [whitebass]. Mitchell was in heaven catching fish after fish as these fish were very willing to cooperate. This is an excellent way to fish when you have children in the boat and they want excitement. Theres nothing better than the words ”FISH ON” to a 6 year old boy. Nothing better to a much older boy either. lol. Be sure and get out on the water and catch some fish while this bite is still hot. If you are a casting person there are fish waiting for you. If you are a troller you will also find the fish waiting for you. See you on the water.

Thanks, Bill

  1. Bill, thanks!

Could you tell me what I should do to catch the crappies? I have been catching so much stripers and really want to get some crappies.

    Thanks.

  2. We were just trolling Roostertails in an area I know usually has crappies. If that doesn’t work then try difting hairjigs or Mini-Mites through your favorite area. The problem is that right now the stripers are on fire and they get your bait before the crappies do. Once the water temps cool down some things will change. We had 80 degrees in one area and 79 degrees in another. Thats warm water and that gets those stripers on the feed/kill bigtime. Now is the time to enjoy the fast action the stripers are giving us. Its not everyday a person can go out and catch a ton of fish like whats available to us right now. The days of slower fishing will be here. lol. Then we will be wishing for the faster action again. Even the largemouth bass fishermen are complaining about the stripers hitting their baits before the bass can so we are all in the ”stripers race to hit our baits” situation right now. I’ve seen years where there has been a die off of crappies in shallow water when we have had water temps in the 80s so I think most crappies are in deeper water to avoid that problem. You might want to try a jigging spoon in deeper water so your bait gets down quicker and hopefully through the stripers before they can hit it. Good luck and please let us know how you do. We can never forget that we ALL learn from each other so each persons sharing is important to making us ALL better fishermen.
    Thanks, Bill

  3. Brian, since I don’t eat fish [I like to catch them again] those fish are always still in there for you or anyone else to catch.
    Thanks, Bill

Are those fish you are eating cats?
