<!–IMG_MARK–> Sometimes the fishing isn’t the only story! Yesterdays guests were Piero Ghedine of Venice Italy and Dave Stanley of Proctor, MN. Both Dave and Piero are Advance Applications Specialists for GE Medical Systems, MRI Group. Dave works in Rochester and we have fished together before. Piero just transferred from Italy to Milwaukee and yesterday was his first North American fishing experience. Piero fish’s bass in Italy. He tells me it’s all largemouth in ponds and rivers inland from Venice. Piero is on the Falcon Rod pro staff in Italy. We started on a wing dam with top-water poppers and walking baits. The bite was fast but a lot of fish were hitting short. Had everything gone it would have been a spectacular start. The picture is Piero with his second ever smallmouth and North American bass. The fish fell to a Northland Mimic Minnow. Piero was excited!
From there we shifted gears to a school of largemouth in a combination of slop and current. It took a while for Piero to get the right presentation down, but he did and the picture is of Dave and Piero with his first North American largemouth.
The weather forecast was for overcast skies. The forecast missed the mark, with bright blue skies and falling water levels the bite was tough for most of the day. We had some success by jumping from school-to-school and catching one or two fish per stop. The picture is a smallmouth that Piero caught on a popper. After the fish took him half way around the boat, he commented on how hard our fish fight. He’s sold on em! It was my pleasure to be part of Piero’s first trip in the USA.
Piero will be looking for fishing opportunities in the Milwaukee area so if you have any suggestions, PM me and I’ll forward them to him.
Great report John, looking forward to our trips on the Upper Miss this fall!
