Clear Lake, Iowa – Aug 5, 2006 – Walleyes & Pike

We celebrate my daughters birthday with a annual fishing trip and what a day on the water it was. I have always admired Ryan Hale reports for putting smiles on the young-uns and I wanted to see if I could still getter done 25 yrs later. And the nice thing about that 21" eye was my daughter said Dad this fish is to nice lets release it. Now that made my day

On our first path off the rushes on the west end of lake produced the nice walleye and a 4# northern.I might add that it took as much convincing now as it did 25 yrs ago to hold that northern for a pic.The west end of lake has been good to me my last two outings targeting 9to 10 ft of water and trolling #5 jointed shad raps in blue/white and firetiger at 2.8 to 3 mph.Another plug that had a good showing today was a #5 blue/white standerd shad rap all these plugs were fished no more than afoot off the bottom.

After releasing the walleye and northern I was hoping to get some fish for Erin to take home.As the mourning progressed the fishing just kept getting better with many nice yellows upto almost 11in.and walleyes from 15 to 18 in were kept for a fish fry.On my next outing I want to get out the ultra-lite and get some of them yellows as they are a blast on lite tackle

We ended the day with a nice basket of fish and alot of memories.And as always spending the day with Erin is good for at least one new exsperience.We stopped at one of them fancy coffee shops and had a $3.50 cup of coffee I think it was called a Rocky Mountain Mocha Jitters ore something like that.Anyway I could have left kicker moter at home as I could have oared the boat all day.Joe,s Guide Service 641-749-2239
