The Bucktails are taking some big fish of all species on Pool 4 right now.
The bite has been awesome, to say the least.
Saturday found Mike and I on the upper end of the pool.
This is where we found this nice 28 inch eye.
Our morning started in the rain we drove right into it, it was sunny and nice in Wabasha when we left the sky to the north was very dark. However we wanted to hit the north end because we heard the bite was hot. Was it ever.
Read on to see more of our last three days.
Saturday found us at Everts ready to launch in the rain. We got some good tips at the bait shop and launched the boat.
We used three crawlers all day.
The bite for us was all bucktails and a few crankbaits casted to some shorelines. This next photo is of Mike right after I had boated the 28 inch eye he popped this dawg. You can say ahh just a carp but I tell you until you start boating a few of these 20 pound beasts. You can only wonder how sore they can make your arms. This was taken on a black bucktail if you look close you can see it in the mouth.
We were working our jigs on a 14 foot edge. Also some jig swimming from some rock shelves. This next photo is of Mike with a nice 21 inch eye from Redwing. He took this fish on a black Bucktail. Which he had pitched up onto a rock edge. All our fish the last four trips out have been photoed and released.
I believe that during the Mayfly hatchs that have been happening the bucktail is the best bait of choice.
This next fish is from Sunday evening. With the weather so hot and the boat traffic nuts, we opted to launch at 5:00pm and fish till 9:00pm. In those four hours we had a blast. This next fish came on a Fatrap and what was one of those green fish doing in that spot? We were working riprapped shoreline and some wing dams.
Continue reading the Report for the next photo is of Mike’s biggest freshwater fish to date. He caught this fish today in the am on a black bucktail.
Here is a photo of Mikes biggest fresh water fish todate.
He took this fish on a black bucktail in 14 feet of water but the fish quickly took him to 25 feet.
He was fishing with our friends Paul and Sue Read from Illinois.
This fish took 25 minutes to land.
He still has the smile on his face.
Here is one more of the many sheepies that we have been boating on a regular basis.
Congrats Mike on catching bigger fish than uncle Greg.
Congrats Greg on that very nice looking BASS you caught. Looks like you are a BASSMAN now.
Thanks for the report and pics. Always a joy to read when you are fishin with the PRO.
Thanks, Bill
[anybody think Greg wants to kill me yet?]
Hey thanks Bill!!!
Here is one more photo of Walleyeboy.
This is a 22 inch Wabasha eye.
Hey that Sturgeon was 50 inches.
Whats he doing with one of those fish? Between all the HUGE carp, Nice BASS, and some of those fish that are as tall as he is, where does he find time to catch eyes? Nice fish Bassboy!
Thanks, Bill
Good job with those bucktails on both end of the pools boys!
Those hairjigs even work on the lake too eh? Thanks for the report!
Mike & Greg,
Awsome! I think we need to change mike’s online name to “Trash Boy”. When you set the hook on the river you never know what it will be and that adds to the fun. Does anyone know what spicie of sturgeon that on was?
John
Hey John, and maybe change Gregs name from Reefunner to Bassman. Face it Greg, those bass ARE fun.
Thanks, Bill
Got that right John!
I am game for just about anything that swims in that river.
Great report Greg. That Mike is sure one heck of a stick already. Good job.
Hey Thanks John..Trashboy uhh that has a ring to it.
I think he likes Lunkerman better.
Anyway that sturgeon is Acipenser fulvescens or more commonly called a Lake sturgeon.
That’s what I’m calling it anyways until someone corrects me.
The Mississippi River is the best dang fishery in the country.
Where else can you go out and in a few hours catch over seven different species of fish with so many exceeding the double digits.
Awesome just awesome.
Hey Bill I have been thinking of changing my name to Greg
Hey Bill I have been thinking of changing my name to Greg
