Lake Menomin Report

The action on the local pond remains good. There is a decent panfish bite going and some fine eater size eyes are chasing cranks. Slipbobber rigs or dragging crawlers next to weedbeds is producing some nice catches of panfish. The main basin is giving up good numbers of white bass on leech’s and crawlers.

I spent most of my time chasing eyes the past couple of days. Covering lots of water has been the best bet. Most of my fish have come in the 8 to 10ft depth range. Fishing the wind side of the lake has been the most prductive. I have been switching up between livebait on spinner rigs and cranks, all ran on leadcore. Running both between 1.4 and 1.8 mph. At a slower speed I switch to running 3way rigs. Kota is supposed to be watching the rod, I don’t know why he was looking at the camera. photo #2

the fish don’t seem to have a preference so my best bet has been to switch up often. After picking up a couple of fish on spinners the bite seemed to die so I would switch to cranks and pop a couple more. I have been running #5 blades with leech’s and crawlers. With both baits producing about the same results. Blade color does not seem to make a difference.

My best producing cranks have been the smaller stickbaits in perch or firetiger. the smallies have been hitting cranks also. Photo #3. If your looking for a few eyes or want to get the kids out for some fast pace action on white bass, Now is the time. get out and enjoy and I will see you on the water.

  1. Hey there. Riding through on my Harley the other day the thought crossed my mind as I passed Menomin, “wonder how’s the fishing here?”. A couple days later I discovered In-depthangling.com. Next thing I know, there was your report on Menomin. Not knowing much about the lake, other than it’s within 60 miles of my home, I checked it out on my Wisconsin Atlas and noticed that there are three launch ramp/access points. Can you tell me, of the three, which is the best, and which one has the most parking. Can I get a little info here? I’d like to give the lake a try. Local bait shop locations would be helpful too. Thanks for anything you can give me.

  2. Welcome to In-depthangling, glad you found the site. You will find a wealth of information on most lakes in the midwest here. As far as the boat ramps on Menomin, the best one is on the east side of the lake. If you are coming in on 94, take exit 41 and go south into town (hwy 25). At the bottom of hill there is a stoplight, Take a right at the light and you will run into Schmidtys bait. Get back on 25 south and take a left at the next stoplight (hwy 29/12). Follow that to 21st st. take a left on 21st and that will take you to the boat landing. That is the best landing and has plenty of parking. Good luck and let me know if I can help in any other way.

  3. Hey there. Thanks for the quick reply and the detailed info. Next day my buddy has off we’ll be heading over to give it a try. The Backtroller

  4. Just wondering if you fish out on Tainter Lake much? Though we live on Tainter, haven’t been out but a few times. Went out on Saturday morning and jigged some cribs and thene the shoreline of the Hay and didn’t catch anything worth talking about. There were a lot of boats out jigging for walleyes, but didn’t look like anyone was having much luck.

Just thought I’d see if you get out on Tainter much and if so, how’s it been this year.

  5. I do not fish Tainter too much but this time of year I like to troll the upper lake. The breakline along the east shoreline is my favorite. I run the smaller size stickbaits on three way rigs. This has been very productive for eyes, crappies and perch. I usually troll between 1 and 1.8mph. Good luck and let us know how you do.
