Pool 4 upper end report

I spent the last five days on the upper end of pool 4 fishing out of Evert’s resort. What a change has taken place since my last trip two weeks ago!! Fishing has gone from very tough for my boat ten days ago to nonstop action this past weekend. The first pic is a 23" eye that came on a crankbait in the main channel. The only reason I was cranking the channel was that we were bored catching 18" eye’s on bait. What a great problem to have!!

I was fortunate enough to have good friend Steve Hix and his family in the boat for part of the weekend and we enjoyed a great summer pattern back channel bite for 15 to 23" eyes. Here is a picture of Steve with a nice eye that fell to a jig/crawler. Crawlers and leeches will both take fish, but the edge goes to crawlers for numbers.

We caught fish on main channel current seams as well as back channel areas. here is Steve’s daughter Hannah with her first eye from one of these main channel breaks. The majority of our fish this weekend came on 1/16 ounce jigs with bait. Crawlers first, leeches second and willow cats a distant third. The H2O precision jigs have a big advantage in keeping the crawler on. Best colors were black and chartruese.

The fish are definitely in summer haunts now with fish over 24" scarce for my boat. We did have three days in row that saw over twenty legal fish released to bite again. The 15-19" fish are aggressive and chomping bait. Check with Dean at Evert’s for bait, jigs and the latest reports. The pike are also going right in front of the resort now. Little B had several right at high noon as well as the more typical morning and evening bite. Get out there and fish!!!

  1. Good to see that Little “B” has finally rid himself of the no-fish curse. The bite has continued to be strong since your departure.

  2. Terrific report Brian!!!

My father-in-law and I are heading to Everts today to do some walleye fishing. Your report is exactly what we needed!!!

  3. Many thanks to Brian from myself and my family. With his know how and know where and expert boat control he had us on fish all the time!! Great time was had by all! Not all the fun was out on the river. We had a super time with Dustin and Jen and others at our cook out and the beers and story telling that followed. A thank you to Dean for his help with our stay. With all these super people around, you can’t help but have a great time!!!

  4. Great report Brian . And some nice fish as well.

Fishing was a bit slower for us on Wednesday than it had been but we were still able to boat a fair number of fish. Nothing over 20″ for us this day

Steve, it was fun to and talk with ya as well. I’m sure you’ll be back up this fall to fish with Brian
