Mille Lacs Lake fishing report 6-25-06

The past week we have enjoyed some really good fishing on Mille Lacs Lake. Tim Hukriede aka "Hook’s" here on IDA and I fished acouple of days in the Hunters Point Tourney Friday and Saturday. We spent our day’s pulling blades on the mud flats. Today I shared my boat with Steve Coomer and his wife Diane from Deer River Mn. We spent the am catching walleye and the afternoon playing around with the great smallmouth action Mille Lacs has to offer.

The mud flats on Mille Lacs has been the area of choice for this fisherman. We had been pulling blades and crawlers on the edges of the flats. The depth’s of 25-32 has been the areas that have been the best. Many of the fish are over the slot of under 20 inches, but it makes for great guide trip’s!!

Our big walleye today was 26 3/4 inches and yesterday it was 27 inches. Most of the fish are running in the 23-26 in. range! We did manage a limit of slot’s to clean up for the Coomer’s to take home to Deer River.

The smallmouth action came on B-Fish-N-Tackle ringworms,K-grub’s. The color’s that caught fish were the chartreuse ringworm, white and the good old gold shine K-grub!!!! We worked the shallow rocks along the east side of the lake. We did’nt find many fish, but just enough to leave the Coomers a taste of what the smallmouth in Mille Lacs have to offer. Thank’s to the Coomers for a nice day to share on the water. Hope to see you again in July and we’ll do it all over again!!!

  1. VERY nice fish Bud. Gotta love it when eyes and smallies are that big. Great to hear Tim got out with you too. Thanks for the report and pics.
    Thanks, Bill

  2. Bobber you are killing me with these Smallies. Spill the beans. Great report Bobber. It is hard to consistently put the # of fish in the boat that you do, much less doing it with Multiple Species! Great report and awesome fish.
