Pool 4 Mississippi Walleye Report 6-24-06

Today we hit the water early, at the launch at 6:00 am.

This took some doing cause they were up late last night.

It is Cody’s last day. He is heading back up to Alborn.

The boys really took to the Bucktail jig bite.

So that is what they wanted to do.

We jigged all morning and were cleaning fish at noon.

This day was the Mike Anderson slug fest. He was the dominator in his words. This first photo is of Mike with a nice 26 inch Wabasha eye. What a way to wipe the sleep out of your eyes. Good job Mike.

The fish were being really finicky on the live bait for us. You really had to give them alot of time even with a jig. We would drag jigs with bait in an area and then we would bucktail it. The boys were having trouble getting fish on bait so we did more bucktailing.

This next photo is of the Dominator with a pair of twin bucktailed eyes. He pulled this off with less then a half hour before we called it a day.

Both were taken on a rock edge in 12 feet of water on a black bucktail. Mike had the touch today, or was it your lucky shirt? Another day that I lose my money to the boys.

We have a standing bet $1.00 on the first legal and $1.00 on the biggest, and the boys fleeced me two days in a row.

This last photo is of Codys limit to take home for dinner.

It was a beautiful morning on the ole Mississippi River.

The boat traffic really started big time around 10:00 am. At Noon we were ready to call it a day. We had a small rain shower before we went to the landing. Just enough to get everything wet. Taking this last photo it was raining but I do not think that you can tell. It was a hurry up and shoot and get off the water for our boat. Once on the trailer it was sunny and nice.

This last photo is of Cody with one of those grass carp. He caught this on Tuesday evening when we went out for a couple hours after work. I think that he was using a super fluke on this one. We got into the strippers and the smallies on that evening. Nothing but junk fish!!!!

Good luck out there everyone.

  1. Looks like another great day for you guys!! These reports are making my on call/work week last forever. You really have the bucktails dialed in

  2. Way to go Mike and Cody! Anyone who call a smallmouth “junk fish” deserves to loose his money! Keep cleaning out his wallet.

Good one John. So Greg took the boys smallie fishin huh. Face it Greg, Mikes becoming a bass guy. Thanks for the report and pics. Are you and Mike going to fish any Tuesday Night Lake Zumbro Bass Tournies this year? Same offer as befoe-drop off your boat and Mike here before work, Mike can stay here during the day while you work, and you guys can hit the Zumbro after work. You might as well join the bass fishin game with him. I can remember back years ago you were a pretty good smallie guy on the Zumbro. [don’t worry I won’t remind Mike] Maybe I should close my mouth now while I still have air in my tires. Anyway Bud, thanks for the reports and pics of the Wabasha Duo at work. Keep em comin.
    Thanks, Bill

  4. Hey John you got a couple bucks I can borrow????

Hey Bill it will take a lot to get me off the Mississippi… With Mike working now it kinda ends the evening fishng… But don’t shed a tear for him becuase he gets plenty of fishng time. More than I ever did as a kid.
Don’t tell him but I think that he is spoiled.

We are getting back on the water in the AM.
Sunday with the rain day for me I spent cleaning and repairing livewell and Bilge pumps.
