I had the pleasure of guiding Brian aka "Sgt Rock" and his son Tom aka "Take a Left Tom" on the first of three Trophy Catfishing Adventure give away trips. To qualify, a parent or guardian needed to register and have a young adult (12 to 16 years of age) that wanted a night catfishing adventure.
TALT (Take A Left Tom) was very framilar with the river and Rock has taught him well fishing the lakes and rivers around Rochester.
We lost our first (very early) fish to a submerged log..but it was early and I was happy we started off with some action!
Here’s TALT’s first flathead…I’m guessing it was in the three to five pound range. I told Tom that this would be his smallest fish of the night.
We moved to a more productive spot just as night fell. Sgt Rock started his streak of getting his fish tangled in a snag. This streak lasted all night for him.
Sometime it just seems that once your jinxed for the evening, it’s hard to shake it!
Tom boated this healthy 13 pounder…and landed it like he’s been fishing for flatheads all of his life!
As Rock continued to stick fish..then loose them to logs…Tom stuck this beautiful 38 pounder.
The energy that a father/son give off when a fish like that finally shows itself…is enough to light up a boat for the night!
This fish topped Tom’s personal best King Salmon by more than 28 pounds!
This photo is of the release.
This hog put an end to the evening in a grand way!
Thanks for the story’s and experiance Brian and Tom!
Make sure you tell Mike Fisher from Hooked on Fishing in Rochester that you brought this guy in on one of his custom made St Croix rods

I can’t say enough Thank You’s to ever repay BrianK for this trip.
Time spent with your son is always special.
A free guided fishing trip…….
Night time on a dark peaceful river…
Showing BrianK where several new snags are and listening to 80# line snap
Watch your son catch the biggest fish of his life ……..
Priceless is too small a word.
Thanks again for a great time.
Yup…respooling now!
Excellent catch Tom, I see you are becoming a “chip off the ole block”.
I also know that hanging around papa Rocky your story collection will grow and become the chat of many campfires to come. (brews when you get older).
Onward to the next adventure.
