The walleye fishing contiues to be good on Mille Lacs Lake! In the past week I have had some really dandy fish come in the boat, from 19 7/8 inch slots to multiple 25+ fish one after the other.
This first photo is Bob who I had the pleasure of sharing my boat with last Thusday. It’s a dandy 24 inch walleye caught on a crawler and spinner fished in 26 fow down on the gravel. The gravel has been a hit and miss deal like it can be…..most times I like to fish the gravel with a little wind, but on Thursday we had wind and few fish? Friday on the gravel was the other side of the hit and miss!! I was pre-fishing for my MTT tourney this past weekend. On Friday my fishing partner Mark and I hammered the fish! Mark had a 28 1/2 male that weighed in at 6.5 lbs. he and I also caught and released 25-30+ fish from 7:30am-2pm. Mark went home that day with his 4 slots for a nice dinner with his family!! The only problem on Thursday was that I left my digital camera at home…..Mark and I would have had some great pictures of walleyes to share…oh well!!
This next photo is of Ron from northern Illinois. He was along with Bob on Thursday. Ron is holding a 27 inch walleye also caught down on the gravel. We ended our day on Thursday with only 7 fish boated. But I think both Bob and Ron enjoyed a good day on the lake. They both caught some really nice fish. But it was a miss of a day for a trip to the gravel!!!
The mud has been also kicking out some nice fish. I have caught fish rigging 8 ft lindy rig’s with red or orange glow hook’s. Crawlers and blades have also put fish in the boat for me. The evening bobber bite also is still going strong just before dark. Bobber fishing in 10-12 fow water on the shallow reefs has been the ticket.
I plan to get out and fish for the smallmouth late this week. It’s time for them to turn on after they finish spawning…….I’m really looking forward to that!! I do have some open day’s for guide trips available, call now and book a trip while the fishing is going strong!!!
Thanks for the report Bob and nice eyes. I’d sure love to get up there and catch some of those eyes and big smallies.
Gotta love those eyes. Great report Bob.
I wanted to post a report on the weekend but time does not permit. I will just add a few pictures here. I was invited by Hooks and Josh Hukriede to go out and pull some boards. I have never pulled boards and wanted to learn and try some new approaches. These guys new what they where doing and I only got yelled at twice for not getting the rod in the right position to unclip.
Thanks Guys! it was fun and I got to learn something new.
Much appreciated. We did catch some nice fish. Here are a few.
Josh with a 27″. Hooks in the back in charge of navigation.
my largest of the day.
The pleasure was all mine/ours……………it was so nice to get out and run the boat again!
I told you I would get you out and show you how simple it can be………but without someone running the lines and figuring out the bite it could of all been a waste of time.
It was great fun to watch Josh play first mate…………..he ran different presentations until finding success.
We taught him well!
Can you tell I take great pride in watching him practice what we preached all these years?
I may not be very good at reeling them in………..but I can still net them and find um!
Man i’m really missing the competition of tournament season. This time of the year is killing me!!
Big D it was a good time getting out there with you and dad to pull some boards. It’s been awhile since I’ve had a chance to do that. It took some time to get back in the hang of rigging rods and setting lines. Once I did though, it was a blast. Dad did a great job of keeping us on fish and controlling the boat in the wind. Realing in the fish was the easy part.
By the way I think I only yelled at you once for not getting the rod down so I could unclip the board. I was just afraid getting some slack line and losing the fish
We’ll have to get out again sometime this summer and chase those big ‘eyes.
PS I may give up the rod that has the big one on next time .
Josh Hukriede
Bob, nice report and fish!!!
Again, Congrats to you and Mike on the great finishes this weekend at the MTT.
