I just finished fishing my 6th day out of the last 9 on the big pond!! The walleye fishing is going real well on the eastside of the lake. Mike Gangl and I fished in the MTT walleye tourney this past Sat-Sunday. We managed to weigh in a tourney limit of 6 slots for 8.40 lbs on Saturday. Sunday we also got our 6 fish which happened to be some better slots that weighed in at 10.14lbs.
The lake has a large 14-16 class in it right now!! For tourney fishing it’s putting the right size slots in the live well!! For the average fisherman……..it’s a blast out there right now! We caught and released 20-30 or more fish in our 8 hour trip’s.
We were targeting transition fish that were holding off the rocks structures on the eastside of the lake. We rigged leeches on 6-9 ft snells pulled around at .5 mph.
Our biggest fish came to the boat at 26 inches. Most of our fish that we caught were in 20-24 ft fow.
The bobber bite just before dark is doing well as is the daytime rock bite when the wind is blowing.
Sorry but not many photo’s with this fishing report…..we were catching fish and having fun doing it! It was just difficult to put the right size fish in the live well! If you have not made a trip up to Mille Lacs Lake yet, please do so and enjoy some good quality walleye fishing.
Many folk’s that were up to Mille Lacs experienced the bug hatch I’m sure. Well if this bug hatch is an indication of how heathly our lake is…..it’s really good!!!! at least that’s what I have always been told. It’s a sign of a healthy body of water…..I know my golden retreiver thinks that they are really good for the her!!! she’s loves to roll in them…….
Great report Bobber. We will be up friday night, so keep that bite going !!! We will have to, as Tuck says, get the “Redneck Yacht Club” going out in the rocks in the evenings !!!

Good Job.
I got to fish a little with Bob on friday and looky what he caught, a nice healthy 24 incher. This was the only fish we caught over the slot most were in the 15-16″ range!
Nice fish guys.. Cant wait for this weekend..
Excellent! The lake sure is in great shape this year!
Thanks for the report Bobber and Congrats on finding fish two days in a row. We need to sit down and have a sometime. I’ll give you a call or see you up there.
Hey guys how long will these bug hatches last? I dont recall in the past hearing about them this early? Will there still be hatches going on well into June or beyond?
Amazing how much a day makes! I was up out of the east side on friday and fishing was slow at best. My boy and I boated 5 fish and lost 3…intersting that he had or caught ALL of them except 1. I only saw 3 other fish caught the whole day. Another buddy of mine was up early on friday and got skunked on the north end. A 2nd buddy of mine was out on saturday on the north end and ‘moked ’em!
Fish are on the flats too.
Thanks to Rob, Calvin & Tuck (and Gary) for the advice. Attached is a pic of a happy 8 year old kid with a ~28″ who at the end of the day said, “that was cool dad!”
That is cool Hedder. Congrats to your Boy . Cal said you two had quite the day. I’m sure that will be a day you 2 will remember for a long time.
Hedder I am glad you got into a quality fish with your son! I am sure he will remember that for the rest of his life…i know I remember my first big mille lacs walleye caught!!(no it wasn’t this weekend for all of you who are wondering) it was a about 20 yrs ago with my dad on the mud!! 27″ to be exact!!!
Give me a call anytime you want and hopefully we can fish together sometime also!!!
Congrats again!
Great Report–I have learned not to apply for a turkey license this late in the year again. It really effects my fishing time.
Nice report Bob , I plan on joining the yacht club this weekend, See ya guys then
Nice report with good information included Bob. Thanks for the report and pics. I’ll bet ALOT of guys are wishing they were up there right now after reading your report.
Thanks, Bill

Schrumy, the steaks were awesome, too bad you didn’t make it back. Thanks for the prop sale, even if you & Dave haggled a bit much. It was nice to meet you and try to find a bigger cup next year.
