Finally decided to leave the crappies alone and instead spent Saturday, Sunday and Monday on Lake Wisconsin fishing for walleyes.
Despite the lousy weather, that turned out to be a pretty good decision. We didn’t pound lots of fish, but we did get quality fish.
Here is a picture of Dick Majcher with a 26-1/2" walleye he caught on Monday in 21′ of water using a jig/plastic combo.
Surface water temperatures dropped considerably from last week and were running between 52 and 54 degrees in the main lake areas.
Rain and shifting winds beat us up pretty good each day. Monday was the best be far weather wise, but it still wore a guy down pretty good by the end of the day.
Dewey Schultz caught his best walleye to date on Saturday using a live bait rig tipped with a night crawler. (25 inches) Nice looking walleye Dewey!
We managed nine walleyes on Saturday. Not a large number, but the quality was definitely there. Four of the nine went between 21 and 27" long.

On Sunday, Mike and his son Dillon Corson joined me for a rough day on the water. We had a really tough time of it too. These two were hard core fisherman and would not give up early despite the strong winds and constant rain.
Unfortunately, we only managed two legal walleyes and one 13 inch crappie. The fishig gets tough for all of us some days. Guide or not, this was one of those days where I struggled to help my clients put fish in the boat. It’s gonna happen sometimes, but I sure don’t like it when it does. Sorry guys!
(to help ease the pain, Mike was only charged for a half day. I do that for any customer who has a tough outing)
On Monday, I didn’t have to worry very long about weather or not the fish were going to bite or not. Dick caught a nice 19.75" sauger to go with his 26.5" walleye pictured above. His buddy Rob had a bit of a tough time catching mostly sheephead before finally pulling in a 14.5" sauger.
We also caught two other legals and two more in the slot that went 26 and 26.25" long.
Here is the nice 26 incher that I caught on a jig/plastic combo.
Here is Dewey with a nice 23″ walleye he caught on Saturday using a jig/plastic combo.
This fish is in honor of Steve Dezurik.
I’m dubbing it the cookie cutter pose.
(Sorry about that finger, I asure you, it was unintentional)
This fish is only 21″ long, but our cookies are a bit smaller than those over there in Pool 2.
One last shot of yet another 26 inch walleye.
Over the three days of Saturday, Sunday and Monday, my clients and I ended up with seven walleyes between 21 and 27″ long.
Throw out Sunday, and it looks pretty good!
Excellent report Joel! Beautiful fish pics to boot. I think most anglers would be willing to wait thorugh the slow times to have a shot at quality fish like that. Nice work.
As for the slow days….It happens to everyone!
Nice report Joel. I have been waiting for better weather to get up to your neck of the woods but it sounds like the bite is going well. Once again great report and Thanks for the insight on Lake Wisconsin. Mark
Great Report Joel. Everytime I drive through that area I think of how lucky you are to live there. That area is very scenic and it shows in your pictures

Thanks guys!
Lake Wisconsin really does seem to be returning to its mid-1980’s form when some of the old In-Fisherman guys used to visit the lake. Haven’t seen or heard of them fishing Lake Wisconsin in a long time.
I really believe the slot limit that protects all walleye’s between 20-28″ long is a huge reason why we are seeing more and more of these nice fish.
Scott, if your ever coming through the area and need a rest from your travels, feel free to give me a call. Your welcome to spend the night at our place any time. Nancy and I would enjoy seeing you again.
