Lake Menomin report

No doubt the last few days have been perfect weather for pursuing eyes. With the weather conditions being just right the fish are cooperating. Last weekend I covered alot of water in search of bass so this weekend was my first time for targeting eyes.

friday was a little tough with the gusty wind but we toughed it out and caught a few fish. Saturday morning the wind was lighter, witch made it easier for a precise presentation.

Both Lindy rigs and jigging are putting fish in the boat. The jig bite is a little slower but rewards you with bigger fish. day to day the preferance seems to change from minnows to leech’s, so make sure you have both. I have covered alot of the water and found fish to be scattered all over. Don’t be afraid to move around the lake and get a fish here and there. The numbers are just not stacked in the traditional spots yet. In the river, we concentrated on running slack current areas adjacent to the deeper water. On the lake, 8 to 11 ft areas that droped off quick held the most fish. dropping off deeper yielded a mixed bag of pike and bass. We put away the live bait and stuck with plastics on the lake. By far the best producer was a BFT chart. and pepper ringworm.

I had a nice coversation with walleye pro DR. J. while he was catching some nice eaters. (Photo one). The second photo is a limit of eaters from Saturday. Photo three is "Kota", ready to call it a day.

Be sure to dress warm and stay dry. see you on the water, Don.

  1. Thanks for the report and pics Don. With the water temp of only 54 degrees from the cold fronts it does tend to make the bite alittle tougher but you figured it out.
    Thanks, Bill

  2. Don, excellent catch and equally excellent report. Thanks for posting. Good luck in the FLW League tournament on Lake Mille Lacs.

  3. Great catch Don. Did you catch many perch while you were searching? Did you notice many boats in by the cemetary maybe catching crappies? It’s about time for me to hit the water now that some of the chores are about done at home.
