Lake Zumbro bite 4/22/06

My last couple trips have been looking for crappies at Lake Zumbro. The fish are still not in the shallows, but there are fish to be caught. With most bodies of water, bigger fish hang out where the food is. Like this 39 inch pike on 6 lb test with a crappie jig.

Can you say FISH ON!!! This pike was a handful on light takcle, and about a 20 minute battle taking us all over the place. Chris (C&R) put the net on it. A quick pic & back she went. What a GREAT way to start the day. She went 13.8 lbs on C&R’s scale. Got one last Monday that was 39 inches & was 18 lbs. She was also released, as the season is closed on inland waters.

Now with all that excitement we can get back to crappies. The fish that we’ve been getting to bite are in 10-15 FOW. With some warmer temps they are ready to move into the shallows. I’ve been casting a small flu-flu (hair jig) into the shallows & slowly jigging it back to the boat, wait for the tick on your line and set the hook.

Ya never know what’s going to bite next. Sm. bass, white bass, crappie, perch, pike, etc. Get out & enjoy some great spring fishing. Stop in and talk to Mike at Hooked on Fishing for all your fishing supplies and info. Good fishin Doug

  1. I see your crappies are MUCH BIGGER [pike] than my crappies. Very nice fish Bud. You sure are having a good year with those crappies this year. Thanks for the report and pics.
    Thanks, Bill

  2. Thanks for sharing Doug!

    Ps…isn’t that Jakes secret spot???

I’m a little surprised that you weren’t using that purple ratso from Hooked on Fishing there…

Dang! Did I say that out loud!

  3. Welcome to IDA Jen!

Mr. Muskie has shared a ton of fishing info…and his a good guy…but I have a sneaking feeling you know that already.

Either way, Welcome to the IDA family!

  4. Welcome Jen. Great to have you with us. Please feel free to share and post all you want. I also have a sneaky feeling that you will have to tell someone to move over so you can post.
    Thanks, Bill
