Northwest Angle Fishing Update

The fishing continues to be good at Flag Island Resort. This past weekend several of the groups targeted both crappie and walleye and were successful at both. With the warm weather the ice in the current areas showed signs of deterioration but this weeks temps should give us time to cash in on the best ice fishing of the season! Now is a great time to head up to the Angle! Take a look at this haul of crappies from over the weekend!

Some of the crappie locations are now seeing pressure so we have had to cash in on some other areas. But the story is the same, use standard crappie presentations tipped with minnows, waxworms or Berkley Powerbait Nibblers. The blunt of the catch is coming one foot off of the bottom. The morning period produced best over the last few days. Bonus tulibee, perch and walleye have also been mingling in the crappie holes!

The walleye bite can be described as spotty. Good catches are being made but results change daily. On the US side the Lake Trails area and small humps south of Oak Island are producing some nice catches of fish. Gold jigging spoons were the ticket this weekend. Depths from 16 to 22 feet being best during the morning and evening.

The fish weren’t easy on the Canadian side but with some effort plenty of fish were caught. One group had a sixty fish day on a hump and another group caught less but had fish up to 26 inches. The perch fishing was poor. Some fish were caught but not in great numbers, it continues to be a struggle.

If your in the mood for winter exotics the smallmouth bite is great. The smallmouth wintering holes are loaded up and the smallies are hungary. Although we don’t target them regularly they are a hoot to catch. We recommend a quick release of these great fish to fight another day!
