Jumbo Perch fishing on Lake Winnie. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly!!! This week has been a lesson in the Have’s and the Have Not’s.
Moving aroung and drilling holes around Perch Bar, Ravens Rocks, and the River Channel in Tamarack Bay produced some really nice fish for the persistent.
Most of the main lake structure is holding fish. Put a camera down the hole and you can even see them looking at your bait, or sucking on the tail. Occassionally you will get an aggressive one that will even take your entire presentation.
Being in the right place at the right time is the key. The March bite is just around the corner. Evidence of that was proven by a group that got on an active school of fish in the Cut Foot area this weekend.
The group of 11 guys in the picture wound up getting their limits of nice Jumbos in the 10″ to 13″ range.
On their second day they hit the ice at 7:30am and were back in camp by 10:00am with 200+ Jumbos and a few Crappies and Bluegills to boot! I sure wish I could have been with them.
It’s not real often that you get into a feeding frenzy like they experienced. When you get on the active fish, lure selection and presentation aren’t even an issue. Several of these fish were caught on a bare hook!!! The March bite WILL happen. It’s just a matter of time now.
Hopefully we are in the right place at the right time and get in on the action. The fish in these pictures were caught in 12 FOW and this same pattern will occur on the main lake and in Tamarack Bay in the next couple of weeks. You can almost count on it.
The question is; Where will you be when it happens?
Good luck and have a great time on the lake.
Jeff
