Mille Lacs Lake Report 12-28-05

The Mud Flats continue to kick out fish for this fisherman! After having a few on and off trips out to the mud, I finally got back on track today! It took alittle running around and few holes drilled….but I was able to put a few fish on the ice today.

This first pic was my big fish today. It bit around 2pm and measured around 25-26 inches. I had changed to red treble hooks on my jigging spoons, which I think has been a factor. I fished around 4-5 different flats today before I found active fish again. This afternoon my neighbor Jeff S. and I fished on the break of a flat in 25 fow. He and I limited out between 4pm and 5:30pm this evening.

Our slots were all 15-17 inches. I also managed to catch another big pout! Man I have caught some nice pout this past week! The hot color has been a 1/4 oz. yellow glow jigging spoon now rigged with a red treble.

The lake is still healing after last weeks break up along shore. The mild temperatures have been great to fish out in, but does’nt freeze up the cracks and or make much ice. The ice depth out on the mud has been around 14 inches. Agate Bay, Hunters, and Liberty still have their lake roads closed to vehicles. Fishers on the Northwest corner has their access open yet. If you are planning a trip to Mille Lacs. Do call ahead and check with your resort on the most up to date report. Make plans and bring the ATV or sled and get in on the great fishing we are currently experiencing!!!!

  11. Thats great! lars_msu you can for sure come to the GTG. We currently have around 30-40 folks in rental houses out of Hunters.

    Look forward to meeting you!

Make sure you tell Hunters Point that you are there for the In-depthangling GTG.

  12. I need info like lars. If a guy comes up what do we need to know about the rules. Portable shacks need a permit or license. How about 4 wheelers , need a flag or a special license. I know a person needs a Mn. fishing lic., I understand th “05” lic. will still be good then. Please give us all the details for nice day on the ice . Don’t want to wind up with a ticket or in jail.

  13. portables need license, $10. Four wheelers, just be sure your registered, in Iowa in presume. Snowmobiles do need trail stickers, if on marked trails. No flags needed.

  14. Is that $10 for an ice shelter sticker a resident or nonresident price? I usually have my brother pick one up as a MN resident, its cheaper.
