Mille Lacs Lake Report 12-23-05

My report today is going to cover acouple area’s. One is the fishing continues to be good on the mud flats. The other will cover current lake conditions.

Josh Hukriede and I meet up with Chappy and ritt14 at Hunters Point Resort this morning at 7am. That is where the days events will start! Chappy and ritt were having trouble with their snowmoblie! The crew at Hunters were busy working on the crack out front as the lake had started to move during the over nite hours. The lake will make some big changes with temperature and last night was one of them. We left Chappy and ritt on shore as we were in a hurry to get out to our spot for the hot morning bite. Chappy and ritt never did hook up with us as they counld’nt get accross the pressure ridge on the lake. They ended up fishing on the Boot Flat and Josh and I were north of them on our spot!

Josh and I managed a few eaters in our morning trip. My biggest fish today is shown in the first pic. It was caught in 31 fow jigging a yellow spoon with a head of a minnow. Josh lost a big fish just under the ice this morning. I released a 13,25,24,22 inch walleyes today. I continue to have luck catching my fish just off the top of the flat. The 30-31 fow has been the best for me. I will fish up shallower for the evening bite which has been from 3pm-5pm. The morning has been the best from just prior to daylight to 9am. After that it get’s really slow for my spot’s.

The lake is currently in poor condition on the eastside for vehicle travel due to the cracks near shore. With Christmas this weekend, the lake will have sometime to heal! The resorts will have time to move their bridges and have things ready for the busy week after Christmas. Please call the resorts for current lake conditions.

Have a safe and Happy Holiday weekend everyone!!!

Merry Christmas from Mille Lacs!!!!!!!!

  1. The eastside of Mille Lacs is dealing with some cracks that will not heal (freeze) up and allow vehicle travel again. Liberty,Hunters and Agate Bay are not allowing cars/trucks out on their roads. ATV and sleds are ok…….
Fishers Resort on the Northwest corner have been allowing trucks and cars, No problems there!

Update on the bite: My morning bite was good again today. I caught fish from 7:20am this morning till around 8:30am. No big fish but enough to take home! Jigging just of the bottom in 29 fow.

  2. Bobber, thanks for the update. I had heard rumors of the crack along the shore. Seems like it will take quite a while to get that taken care of. Keep up the good info.

  3. Good fishing with ya Bob! Maybe next time you could clean the pout for me!
Got a nice chunk of meat out of that thing!
With the PDC get together cancelled, I should be up that weekend!

  4. Good report Bob.

Sorry I missed you guys at Hunter’s. Maybe I will try hooking up another time.

I ended up going out of Fischer’s and ran my 4-wheeler out from their road. Once I found the ridge way out there I decided I did not want to risk trying to cross it and headed north towards the Jug area. Ended up with 5 keepers and a few pout. The fog sure was thick at times.
