Farm Island, MN 12-9-05

Friday a buddy and I headed up to Farm Island to chase some flags and ice some pike. There are a couple bays where we have had some real good tip up fishing for quite a few years. Well, unfortunatly on the way up, the key blew out of the atv and in the shape we were in we were not about to drag the Otters all the way across the lake. We decided to set up in an area that looked like it would be a good walleye spot. We caught a few small perch until about 3pm and then they moved out and the walleyes moved in. The first came jigging a glow spoon with a fathead head on it. It was 15.5", and the only one that hit the jigging spoon. From then on all fish came under a bobber or on a tip up with a medium sized shiner.

Color didn’t seem to matter as all lines were pretty equal as far as the number of bites. We missed quite a few fish as they didn’t reall seem to be taking the bait real hard. They would hit and just take it to the bottom and sit there. We were fishing 18′-20′ just off the outside weed edge. Our fished ranged from 15" up to 22" and we had consistant action until about 7pm. The ice was 5-6" in the areas we checked and we did not see another house anywhere by us. Good luck if you head out and be safe.

I love fishing both walleyes and bass. For walleyes I spend most of my time guiding on Mille Lacs. For bass I spend a ton of time on Minnetonka, but I cover most of the greater Minneapolis/St Paul Full Bio ›
