November 20 2005!
Hey Mike is back over the Thanksgiving break to do some Pool 4 Walleye and Sauger fishing. And the Bite is snapping.
Our first day on the water we were accompanied by the Up north Boys, Brad and Jake Laabs.
We started out jigging and switched to cranking.
The Sauger just jumped all over the plugs.
Read on to see and here some more of our Great day on the water.
We hit the water around 9:00 am. Got a later start then usual cause we stayed up too late reminiscing of days past on the water. Laughter and ribbing abound in the pre-fish camp.
We started the day off doing some live bait jigging with little results. I went to snapping some plastics and like magic Walleye..here is a photo of our biggest walleye of the day. She came early but Big sauger were to follow once we changed game plans.
Here is a shot of Mike and Brad unhooking yet another eater sauger. We were on a mission for 12 eater fish cause Brad and Jake wanted some fish for the pan.
They had come down to watch the Wild play Saturday night and Walleye fish Sunday. The Wild won and we kicked the fish around pretty good too.
The fish Gods were very good to us this day..
Thank-you Thank-you Amen…
The weather was very nice a bit cool in the am. But the wind stayed down and we enjoyed our day.
By days end we had 3 Legal limits and had caught over thirty fish.
Our best bite by far was running the crank baits.
This last picture is of our days catch.
It was great fun guys glad you came down we always seem to have a ball on the water.
Thanks–we’ll have to do it again soon.
Greg,
Thanks for the report. Glad to see Mike back in God’s country. Mike, If the weather holds I suspect we could smack a couple of bass on wednesday. Interested?
John
Good report Vandy! Just a heads up for anybody headed out this week for some vertical jigging. The water temp.is getting into that range we all like to see. I had 39 degrees on the upper pool this weekend. The past 3 or so weekends blades and hair were the go to bait for most, including myself. This held true for last Friday also. Early Saturday morning the blades were good for a couple of nice eyes . As the day wore on that bite seemed to shut down. On a tip from fellow staffer, Brooktrout, I switcehd over to Doo’s on H2O jigs. This was what the fish were looking for (thanks Jason). Yep, it looks like the Doo bite is starting to take off. It should be in full swing by the weekend. Anybody seen MR. Harvey .
Thanks for the report Bud. Great to see Mike back in the saddle of catchin fish on the Mississippi.
Mr. ”Super doo” Harvey has been burried in work the past few months but I look for him to be able to start super dooing it on the river soon hopefully.
Thanks, Bill
Hey Thanks John…looking forward to Bassin
Hope the weather holds.
Mike and I have been on the water the last two days and it has been very nice as long as the wind stays down.
Hey Don you are right the plastics are taking fish and the Doos are going..ringworms are also doing the trick.
However for our boat the cranks have been putting three time the number in the boat then the jig bite…
But that can change in a hurry.
Thanks Bill
Here is a photo of Mike with a couple from Monday.
We had the privilege of fishing with my Rod builder..
Mr Jerie Eckholdt what a blast…
Today we stayed to the jigging…Plastics, plastics and more plastics…
We did some jig and minnow also.
The bite was slower for us today we probably only boated about twenty fish today. That is half what we did yesterday.
Here is Jerie with a nice Ringworm Eye.
Mike got Big fish honors today..
Greg should have gotten the net instead of the camera.
This is the only photo I got,my new camera’s recovery time between shots is to long….
I wanted a couple shots before I netted her….She on the other hand wanted nothing to do with photography.
I think she thought she was over weight….typical female.
Long story short, she was an easy four pounds but I think she would have went more…doesn’t matter it is just going to grow as time passes.
Next Time I will get the net Then Take the picture
