Pool 5 Walleye Report

It is getting to be that time of year again. Fishing, Bow Hunting, Duck Hunting, Goose hunting, turkey Hunting, and Pheasant hunting. What does a guy do?

I know it has been a while since I wrote a report. Honestly, I haven’t had my boat in the water but two hours since the FLW Championship. Most of my time has been wrapped up in the tree. I did the mistake of going bowhunting after the championship and low and behold I saw one of the biggest bucks I have ever seen. Needless to say, I have been hunting that one deer ever since. Plus a little needed break from the river was very nice. I have 254 acres in Buffalo County that I haven’t hunted for the last three year. For the last three years I jumped right in to guiding after the championship. Not this year.

My ol man has been picking up all the slack this fall. Every week and weekend he has been pounding pool 5, 5a, 5 with great success. Do to his lack on computer skills and my lack of time reports have been scarce.

The bite on pool 5 is great shape right now. Numbers and quality have been great for the last couple of weeks. Lot of different presentations are working. Hair jig w/minnows and three way and cranks have been the hottest. The dam has seen most of the action for saugers but finding a few side cuts that hold baitfish have been the best place for walleyes. The first walleye hit a FisherFlick hair jig w/minnow. I deep back water spot with a little back eddy produced this one. Walleyes were coming up out of the deep to shallow and pinning baitfish up against the shore when this one hit. Him and Dave Konkel managed to put these walleyes in the boat with just a few hours working that spot.

Like I said the numbers are at the dam. But there are some good fish up there mixed in . The sauger came up at the dam working three way and cranks.

Until next week good luck. I’ll finally be back on the water this week.
