Jiggin Up Big Strippers On The Zumbro

Jiggin up stripper on Lake Zumbro was the mission for today. We have been covering bullgills alot lately so we thought we would switch fish spieces this afternoon. Most people will cast for them but straight line jigging is what we found to produce some better fish.

The fish were pretty tight to the bottom so keeping your lure/bait on the bottom produced fish. If you went higher you would catch the little ones.

Again the bait of choice was the Mini-Mite tipped with a waxie. We have had a fantastic amount of catches with this panfish plastic bait. The fish do not want to let go of its tail. It bounces around looking very lively and the fish are eating it up. [no I am not sponsored by them. Darn it, lol]

The last pic is one of many bluegills that were caught on a new jigging spoon that Mike at Hooked On Fishing is now stocking in his store. [note the spoon hanging from the fishes mouth] Mike’s field testing of the 1/32 jigging spoon has been very successfull and will be a great addition to your tackle box for both open water and ice fishing.

Thanks, Bill

  1. I sure wish I would have had some extra time while down there the otherday…

Looks like those Mini Mites equal a great smell coming out of the kitchen!

  2. Those look neat Mike,
I’m trying to decide which is the better pic though, the nice new blade bait or the big gill that think’s it some kind of toothy critter attacking that thing.
I think I’m gonna have to add some of those to the tackle collection.

  3. You guys are having too much fun down there! Those light blades are very effective on just about anything that swims. They really work well ice fishing as well, dont be surprised on what you catch on them, they really smack-em.You have those bluegill fillets ready yet Bill?

  4. I like jiggin up strippers too. I prefer the small ones, but after a couple of adult beverages most any will do ;-)

  5. That little jigging spoon is going to be a great lure on both open water AND ice from what I’ve seen so far. They come in several different color patterns too. Lake Zumbro wiil be a good body of water to test out new and different lures and also see what different fish spieces will bite on the same lure.
    Thanks, Bill

I don’t have them ready but Mike probably does. I always put them back where I found them like a good little boy. [don’t eat fish, just catch and release them]
    Thanks, Bill

  7. As Clint Eastwood said ” A man needs to know his limitations.” He should also know his stripper from his striper

  8. strippers are the best, both Blue Fleck and I agree on that

We got into a bunch of 16-18 inchers on P7 last Thursday. Ah and the smell of them too……whoa baby gotta them strippers!!!!

  9. They put up a fight that reminds me of a smallie on the end of the line. Lots of fun. Especially on a super sensitive rod like a light action St. Croix Avid rod.
    Thanks, Bill
