Walleye Report Pepin and Pool 4 October 21 2005

The eye’s are willing to bite if you put it in their face.

The temps are finally dropping I was reading 50 – 54 today.

The water color is still muddy in places. But if you work at it you can scratch out some nice fish.

I think if the water keeps dropping the bite is going to go gang busters.

There are tons of shad every where and the fish are not hurting for food.

This first fish was taken on a Black bucktail popped right past her face. She just crushed this jig. you have to love a jig bite.

This next fish was taken with a Crank bait casted across a point.

The fish hit it in about six feet of water.

If we do not get any more heavy rains and the water keeps dropping. Look for the bite to really turn on.

We only boated one legal limit of fish today but they were nice fish.

Here is a shot of a pretty nice sunrise.

Then the rain came.

The wind stayed down all day so that made pithing jigs fun for all.

The flow on the upper river is still very strong.

I have a new Camera and new software I like the camera. The new software is a different story. Change Change Change.

I fished with Jerie Eckholdt. We had to work for our fish.

He kept catching these humungo Crappies. I wished I would have wanted to keep some but I had 2 18 inch walleyes on my mind for the fry pan.

Jerie thanks for the eaters.

It was a great day on the water even though the rain came.

When I'm not fishing or working I'm looking for nitecrawlers...and Tournament Angler for the past 20 plus years.

  1. Thanks for the report Greg. With both you and Jerrie in the same boat casting jigs the fish don’t stand a chance. Some nice fish in the pics and the pics of the water scenery is fabulous. Thanks.

    Thanks, Bill

ps. I just made pic 3 my background on my computer. Looks great. Only problem now is it makes me crave getting on the water even more.

  2. Thanks for the praise guys…

Hope to see you all on the water soon.

The fish are on the move and the bite is going to just get better.

Look for the cleanest water you can find.

Good luck hope to see you out next time.

Take care and have a great fall.

  3. Nice report Vandy! I was thinking those pictures looked very clear! Pretty nice! What kind of camera did you go with? It is like looking at a HD TV as opposed to a regular one!
I look forward to seeing you on the river again soon! I have to fill the freezer for winter with the kids hunting first! See you soon!

  4. Hey Chris,
This is my fourth Nikon even with the old film type cameras I have used Nikon.
    This is the 7900 cool-pix.
The soft ware for this is all new so I am still scratching my head on some of it.
It takes time to get used to the new setting.
Like on my Bass report most those photos are sorta blurred.
Dang I just don’t know what I did wrong.
Oh well keep playing with them. It does video too but one thing at a time.
I just hope I can keep catching fish to photograph.
    Later Take care.

  5. Hi Greg;
Good to see ya scoring on jigs. Looks like you have the new camera nailed too.

    Thanks, Bill

  7. Hey Bill;
I got a navigator 185. Two ft. more boat, wheel instead of tiller and all new electronics. Too much change, but I love it

  8. Nate is running the 175 Navigator and boy do those boats have ALOT of room. You will love it.
    Thanks, Bill

ps. Nates boat is for sale [Smittys Marine Demo Boat] with full warranties and someone can even trade their old boat in on it so if you know of anyone looking for one let me know. Thanks.

  9. Congrat’s on the new rig.
That is one wide bugger should be a good ride.
What did you put on it for power?
Well good luck up here you should be hitting it at prime time. With no more heavy storms to the north the system should be ready to go next week end.
I might get up that way next weekend.
    Good luck and take care.
