What a great week-end to spend on the water.Had temps around the 70 degree range wiith light winds. The nights were cool making the mornings a little chilly for us.The water temps have dropped about 10 degrees in the last few weeks.Austin and I started early Sat. morning and on his first cast he picked up a smallie, but we struggled the rest of the day.We did find a few active bull gills.
We worked shallow and deep weedlines and rock piles but never did get a good bite going during the day.Last year the perch bite was very good on West but so far this fall it’s been hit and miss. The ones we do find are nice fish.
My best friend Tom Ashley rolled into camp Sat. afternoon for some fishing.Tom and I don’t get alot of chances to fish anymore so I was very happy to get him out for a few hours. We hit a shallow rock pile Sat night for a few hours and had alot of fun.The fishing was good with perch, gills and smallies being active.Austin also put a legal walleye in the boat right at sundown. Here is Tom with a nice smallie.Way to go!!
We were back on the water early today and had a good morning.Austin had the hot stick and really put the hammer to Tom and I.Tom if you read this I’m glad you could make it out for some fishing. It was a great week-end and alot of fun. Thanks for the awesome chilli Sat. night. Here is Tom with a chunky fall largemouth.
Take care,
Ryan Hale

Thanks Ryan. Always fun to read about the boys and you having fun catchin fish.
Yep, sure looks like a warn out fisherman there.
That fresh air does it to you.
Thanks, Bill
Been discussing with Howard the Duck from Iceteam that we ought to head over there. Those gill pictures are getting to me.
Yep, I know what you mean. LOTS of fun sitting there relaxed in a boat on open water and with the sun shining and warm temps and you are catchin gills after gills with a few smallies and perch thrown in too.
And they sure know how to fight on real light tackle.
Thanks, Bill
Nice report Ryan…as someone said, with these gill reports…I’m getting hungry!
Way to go Austin – keep catching fish and they’ll be singing you up to fish with the Pro’s! Good report Ryan. Chuckles

I will add a little side report of my own, no pictures though.
I met Ryan and he graciously took me out in his boat for a couple hours to show me some structure on the lakes. A HUGE thanks to him again for his generousity, and his son Austin is one great kid.
When i was there that weekend i was catching lots of 12-16″ smallies in 14-16′ FOW on a minnow using a long line snell. Snell of about 4′ made of Vanish. Caught one 14″ eye that way too. The smallies were the most consistent fish that weekend.
Again, thanks alot to Ryan and his son, great people and can’t wait to get with them again!
Hi Dylan, great to see you on IDA.Thanks for the kind words and let me know the next time you get in the area.
