Lower pool 4 remains consistant if you are looking for sauger. It was kind of a toss up on what end of the pool to fish and what presentation to use. With the high, muddy water, we opted for trolling the lower end. Our thinking was that the water may be a little cleaner down there. That was not the case! As Dustin reported, there is alot of debris floating.
The good news is the trolling bite remains consistant. Not fast and furious but enough eater size- and bigger- to keep things interesting.
We started off trolling upstream and covering a variety of depths to make contact. Our first fish came on a #5 shad rap in 15ft of water. After a couple of trolling passes and a couple more fish, we zeroed in on the more aggressive fish in 8 to 11ft. Key in on areas where the contour line makes a sharp turn.
The fished showed no real preferance to color. It seemed that the best bet was to switch colors after it caught a fish. Both shad raps and wally divers were producing fish. Black shad and firetiger are two good choices though.
trolling both up and downstream produced fish. The best trolling speed was around 2.5mph.
If you are planning on hitting pool 4 this weekend be carefull! There are lots of deadheads floating all over the pool. The biggest fish in photo one scaled in at 3.7lbs. The second photo is a couple of nice sauger taken later in the day. All fish were released. Good luck and I will you on the water.
Thanks for the report and pics Bud. You are certainly having fun on the water I can see. Is the water up pretty high still?
Thanks, Bill
