I thought client Wayne Horn and his buddy Gordy could be persuaded to go for sure-thing bass rather than walleyes the past couple days on pool 9. Wrong! Eelgrass coming down and fluctuating water temperatures which are still way to warm have meant tough sledding on ‘eyes the past couple weeks…at least for me.
Fortunately the major salad had pushed thru to pool 10 by Wednesday morning. But walleyes have been tough to pattern on pool 9, in transition between the running sloughs and staging on the wingdams.
A strong south wind helped make the choice and we headed for Minnesota slough where the guys boated five keepers. The bigger fish (up to 19 inches) came on B-Fish-N Tackle’s new K-Grub color
Ol’ Koonce told me what the color was. It sounded like somethiing you would order at Starbuck’s..fluffy latte mocha something. I just call it polynesian hemerhoid, ’cause it’s sort of red & green. This new K-Grub color has been HOT on spinnerbaits for those stupid bass. Can hardly wait to try ’em on North Dakota walleyes next week. Anyway, legal walleyes had a definite affinity for plastics over livebait. We had both crawlers and willowcats in the boat, and the B-fish-N polynesian hemorroid K-Grub proved to be the key on these tough transition wallies
Although I would rather catch walleyes than those dumb bass on the rocks w/Rat-L-Traps & spinnerbaits w/K-Grubs (up to 20"!!)the bass have been easier for me lately on the wings and rip-rap from Blackhawk down to the DeSoto sewer plant than the wallies have…if I HAD to chase wallies, Minnesota Slough and the Winneshiek east channel would be where you would find me and Hanna Banana, the wonder dog this weekend…but we aren’t fishin’ ’cause she wants to hunt doves.Next stop: Devils Lake ND!
Nice report Ted. Nice fish. Thanks.
Maybe I can slip out later this afternoon.
Now if I weren’t making an apple pie and putting raspberries in the freezer
But the name you gave the K grubs

Trust me, those new hemoroids from B-Fish-N Tackle look ALOT better than the hemoroids I use to get from lifting at work years ago.
They have a perch/crawdaddy kinda look to them which fish like.
Thanks for the report Ted. Walleye and bass fishing is a great combination and you seem to do very well on both.
Thanks, Bill
Pahoo and me were out fishin’ with the new grub on Tuesday when there was a lot of grass coming thru pool 9. The real name is something like “bleeding crimson chartreuse”…would like to see B-Fish-N tackle come out with a ringworm in this pattern. Don’t know if it will beat the ol’ reliable purple/white come November…but it certainly is an productive color on the Miss this time of year! I’ve pretty much sworn off livebait for everything but crappies in the fall. Plastics have come so far that they will consistently outproduce livebait if you simply BELIEVE and fish accordingly.
If there is one bait I would like to see produced it would be a paddletail or K-Grub in WILLOCAT pattern. Maybe the folks at Berkley can come up with a “gulp” fragrance to mimic the flavor of willocats…the new bait should be made out of soft plastic like the B-fish-N and Lindy Munchie baits…but have three little thorns with highly toxic material near the head of the bait just like willocats! A willocat sting is a WONDERFUL thing if you’ve got a terminal case of chiggers…take your mind off itchin’for awhile.
Back to the crappies…have you tried a RoadRunner horsehead jig and lip-hooked crappie minnow four feet down over 10 feet in the brush lately? Tying the jighead on using a loop knot on 30 lb. FireLine works pretty good.
The RoadRunner came out in ’58. Bet you remember it ,Bill & Fishing Machine. It still catches fish! So does the Flatfish. The X-5 yellow/black & red spots is a smallie KILLER.
And remember the old Shannon Twin Spinner?? That’s what Pahoo was throwing the other day with his new Polynesian hemmorhoid tail on the rocks near DeSoto. It wasn’t an original Shannon…but an exact replica. Was it the K-grub or the spinner? both?
Anyway, like chartreuse pepper Senkos, original Chompers and quality ringworms this new K-grub color by B-Fish-N tackle is definitely a must-have ‘bullet’ in the tackle bag!!!
I might even have some of those road runners in my tackle box Ted. Almost forgot about them with all the new stuff out. Got one more week that I’m going to chase the crappies. Or at least split the days between that and the walleye. Then it
will be more serious fishing for the eyes.
Bleeding Gold Chartreuse
I have been getting several orders and great reports on this new addition…Glad you like it Ted
Funny you show mention the Roadrunners as I just bought some white ones at Hooked On Fishing today when I was out there. Mike has brought in a bunch of different stuff for panfish and walleyes recently and the Roadrunners was one of the items.
You are giving your age away Ted when you start talking older fishin lures.

Thanks for sharing the tips with everyone.
Thanks, Bill
I knew a guide down on Kentucky Lake who wouldn’t even consider taking you out unless you were willing to pitch Road Runners. And now that they added the Bubble Belly without the maraboo, they’ve become a favorite on other lakes like Truman and Mark Twain.
