Great Weekend, Rock River Walleye Report 9/10/05

After the Labor Day weekend walleye report I would have to say I didn’t think I would top that one on the next weekend, which I did. The walleye bite Saturday was one of the best. It was an afternoon bite from 4:00 to 7:00. Time goes to fast when fishing, only if it did that at work

I started off the morning going on a company golf outing which I couldn’t wait until I got done because I’m so bad at golf. After a 16 over par and all the other golfers thinking on just getting a buzz after the golf game, I headed to the river. I was on the river Saturday afternoon by 4:00 and had my limit of nice eater walleyes by 7:00. Man did I make the right decision to go fishing and not to stay with the company gang to drink. Walleye bite was one of the best of the year this weekend, for me anyway. It only took five minutes on the first drift to catch a nice walleye like this one on the left.

The only bad thing about Saturday, I didn’t get to share this great afternoon with a friend. All my fish came in seven to eight foot of water with a hard bottom. My jig of choice is always the Nuckle ball jig by Fin-tech Tackle Company. Anglers you can’t beat these stand up jigs, they are the best stand up jig on the market. My favorite color is Glow/Green which Labor Day and this weekend was the color with pink/white a close second at 1/4oz to 1/8oz. to catch nice eyes like these on the right.

On Sunday I called a good friend and great angler to go fishing to hopefully to share the great time I had Saturday. Matt and I did nothing different than what I did Saturday which wasn’t working, go figure . The problem was the wind, blowing right up the mouth of the river by Lake Koshkonong where the river entry the lake made the water very dirty and moved the walleyes up river father than were Saturday. After brain storming with Matt we decided to move to cleaner water which in return got us a couple of keeper walleye like this nice Sauger Matt caught on the left.

Just one great tip anglers, everyday is different and you will have to adjust day to day to catch walleyes. Which Matt and I did to catch fish like this one on the left

  1. Interesting post Jeff. So were you really using plastics below a bobber as the header states?

Glad to see I didn’t catch all the fish

A question for you. Was the water visibly dirty when you were out. The wind was doing the same when I was out on Sat but I didn’t notice a difference. Maybe the wind blowing in for two days stirred things up.

Interesting. Two things I have learned. Each time out on the Rock I learn something different. Sometimes I am humbled, sometimes just frustrated, and sometimes truly amazed.

As my Grandpa taught me “Never leave fish to find fish”

To bad I still don’t listen to him

    Good Report as usual

    Derek

  2. Only you would have notice that header Diesel.

Sorry, hit the wrong key, thanks for the heads up.

Just like you Saturday I also didn’t see a change with the water with the wind blowing up river. I would have to say with the wind all day Saturday and Sunday, Sunday afternoonn you could see a mud line like those by the bark river. We did catch fish right on the break of the mud line.

  3. Thanks for the report Jeff. Nice fish and VERY good tips [make adjustments if what/where you are fishing isn’t working and paying close attention to details including water color changes] that prove to up a persons catch rate.
    Thanks, Bill

  4. There’s never a silly question on this site. The Rock River is in WISCONSIN and ILLINOIS. All my reports are from around Fort Atkinson WI by Lake Koshkonong
