Lake Zumbro Whitebass =Fun On The Zumbro

Trolling for Whitebass on Lake Zumbro was the mission for the day while trying to get in some more hours on my kicker motor. Deeper water and faster sppeds of 4 mph was the ticket to the bigger bass.

I needed to get some more breakin hours on my kicker yet just couldn’t spend a day on the water without fishing so trolling for whitebass became the mission Saturday Sept. 5th. Started out with speeds in the 2-3 mph and only caught small fish.

Speeds of 3-3.5 mph produced alittle bit bigger fish. I started out with trolling crankbaits but they weren’t the ticket for the day.

After experimenting with speed and lures I found what worked best. Speeds of 4 mph and trolling in-line spinners was the bait that caught the most fish. A faster speed and a spinner with flash trolled high in the water column did the trick. I couldn’t find any of the real big ones that my son Nate and I use to catch when he was much younger. I’m afraid that possibly people have been keeping them over the years and as a result its hurt the whitebass fishery. These fish are ALOT of fun to catch as they fight well. Its a great fish to get a kid hooked on fishing with proof of that being my youngest son Nate. Please release the fish when you catch them so there will be fish for our children, grandchildren and even us to catch in the future. See ya on the water.

Thanks, Bill
