I had the opportunity to hitch a ride with B.C. this morning to help him pre-fish the Chetek Chain today. Our local "guide" was IDA’s own Kizew. I awoke to the alarm this morning at 3 a.m. to absolute pouring rain
. Wasn’t going to stop us though!! We heading down the road and a few hours later the rain subsided and we witnessed this awesome sunrise!
160 miles later, We met Kizew at the local Kwik Trip and headed down to the landing. Our first stop was an "undisclosed" bridge where we threw some jigs and drop-shots. I started off w/a solid 2 pounder. Now since we were in "Pre-fish" mode for B.C.’s federation tournament next week, our whole purpose was to find fish and move on. We covered a lot of water today b/c Zew only knows 1 speed on the water, and that’s B-‘s to the Wall!!! lol.
Anyway, Fishing was fairly tough.
I’ve never been on a body of water that’s color was the same as Mt. Dew. It was so green, and the algae growth gave it the appearance of pea soup. Quite a site if you’ve never witnessed it before. It took a while, be we managed to find some fish here and there. BC Hooked a MONSTER northern before right before catching the Bass in the Above photo. It had to of gone 35-40" in length and was just MASSIVE. Zew couldn’t fit his hand around it’s head. Sorry no picture, as it was released w/o taking it out of the water.
All in all, it was a great day.
Can’t say thanks enough to Greg (zew) for taking us out and showing us around. If you’ve never fished w/Greg, he’s hilarious, but don’t get him talking about his mother-n-law
.
One last thing. When fishing 3 in a boat, accidents are bound to happen, kinda like this one when I cast into B.C….lol….
See you all on the water!!!
Here’s the color of the water….This picture is of “clean” water. Other area’s like I mentioned were infested with Algae.
As far as techniqes, we tried everything, we fished from 6″ of water to 15+. We threw Swim Jigs, Tubes, Drop-Shots, jigs, topwater, you name it. We ended up Catching everything on Brovarney Swim jigs in and out of the Slop, and regular jigs around the “undisclosed” bridge.
Good Luck Next week B.C.
I thoroughly enjoyed the company of Slop and B.C. – these kids are good sticks! Any time you fish with people that think out loud when they catch a fish you know they have unlimited potential – these guys are in that category.
Still tellin mother-in-law jokes, Gregg. Any new ones I haven’t heard yet?
Miss B.S with ya on 20/20. Been too busy tournament fishin I bet. Been a good year?

Where did you take these guys???….the Red Cedar River?
Nice Report.
Looks like a great trip.
Have you got that birds nest out yet?
We got some more water coming at you the cities got pounded over the weekend.
Some people get upset with birds nests….I would rather be working on an impossable birds nest than to be…working on an easy honey dew list!
Hey Zimmy! We were on the Chetek chain close to my house. The water looks very similar to Lake Menomin doesn’t it? Let me know if you want to come out and do some bowhunting this year! Hope all is well.
Just may take ya up on that bowhunting offer, Gregg. My hunting area is in a T-Zone this year.
Really screws up bowhunting in my opinion.

My Dad and I went to Jim Falls to the races last night…stopped at Sacred Heart to see my Grandmother and Mom. Grandma broke her hip last week in the nursing home and needed surgery. Guess it was to much for her. Dad and I stopped back at the hospital to see how she was doing. She had passed away 20 minutes before we arrived. She was gonna be 99 years old next month so she had been ready to go anyway. I’m gonna miss her growing up stories though. Times were really different back then.
I can’t help ya out with any new Mother-in-law jokes.. being single an all.
You take care good buddy. Talk to ya soon!
We were laughing our
‘s off…
Here I am assessing the situation
…..I retired that one for the day..
NICE REPORT SLOP
sure looks like you guys had fun. good luck in the tourney B.C
Thanks bud…even though the fishing was tough, I think I know enough to do pretty well next weekend. Thanks to kizew for taking the both of us out…we had a lot of laughs and caught some fish, can’t ask for anything more. Slop forgot to mention the turtle he caught too!
I didn’t know you were a bird lover and build them nests.
I’ve been there before, just cut it out and re-spool

I’m heading for Chetek on the 10th for a week. The place is great.
I’ll be there until about 3pm…see ya there!
How did you do big guy?
Why did the mother-in -law cross the road?
Just to Pi*& you off.
I took second…it was a tough day fishing for the whole club though. No more than two fish weighed in per person.
I finished ahead of Champman and Wingdam, that’s all that matters.

Chetek is definitely a unique fishery!
