Lake Koshkonong, Rock River Walleye Report 8-28-05

With the month of August just about gone and September coming up fast, walleye action is still great. Cooler nights have started bait fish to move up river which in return walleyes start putting on the feed bag.

On this Sunday afternoon I got out with a new friend Matt (A.K.A. rancor). Matt and I started off vertical jigging 1/4oz jigs and half crawler. Most of our fish were caught less than seven foot of water and at times three foot of water would produce fish. Lime/green, green, glow/green where the walleyes best color choice this afternoon. Here are two nice eater walleyes Matt caught on the left.

Are biggest fish on this outing was 20 inches, we just caught all good eater which we kept five for the fry pan. We did see some nice walleyes in the 25+ range which the anglers did keep

We also caught at least 10 pike this day which the biggest around 30+ which the pic’s didn’t turn out but they did on this snake on the right. All and all they were fun to catch.

This night ended with good memories and I made a new friend which he knows how to fish. We ended up with around 10 pike and 20 walleyes with 6 keepers which we took home 5 for lunch. For only being out 3 hours and fighting the wave runners and tubers I feel we had a great trip and I would think Matt agrees. Thanks for a great afternoon on the water Matt and hope we can get out this fall.

  1. I have a open seat Saturday if you don’t mine wave runners tubers and tons of boat traffic. The fish still bite, which is weird. The DNR and County cops should be out this last holiday weekend. With nice weather and temp in the 80’s it will be nuts. But this is one of my weekends I can fish so I have to make the best of it. PM me if you think you can make it up.

  2. Thanks for the update JP,

Plan to get out with a buddy for his birthday this weekend during the zoo for more combat fishing. Probably Saturday or Monday. Don’t worry he is not the fishing kiss of death but darn near close

Maybe there will be a BOLA sighting. Kinda like bigfoot, ya never know when he will be around a corner

Looking forward to getting Z-man back out. We are on a good trend. 2 for 2 for outing with fish to bring home.

  3. got a break in the action at work and home, so gonna hit the Rock this afternoon. Hoping to catch all the weekend traffic and play dodge-boat, so we’ll see. didnt seem to bother the eyes last time out with Diesel, though. Will try to post report this evening, if I’m not worn out from yanking them in..

  4. Cool,

Let us know so I can find out how many crawlers to buy. Not buying them at that liquor store in Jefferson EVER again. Two dozen crawler are NOT one dozen broken in half!!
