Mississippi River Pool 4 Bull Gill

I spent a couple hours this afternoon fishing Mississippi River Pool 4 backwaters by Wabasha and was rewarded with the thickest gills I’ve caught in a long time.

This will be a short report as I only had a couple hours to fish before meeting my two son in St. Charles for supper. I started out fishing weed edges in the backwaters around Wabasha for gills and spot #1 only produced small ones.

Spot #2 provided me with action along the lilly pads but the fish were small bass. The technique today was the good o’l hook, line, and splitshot about 2 feet under a bobber. For faster action in a short on the water time frame this system is hard to beat.

Spot #3 was an area with deep water with trees down in the water in several locations in the area. At first I caught small gills but after moving around alittle in this backwater area I found some bull gills ten minutes before I had to leave. Without a doubt the Mississippi River is home to some very nice gill. Next time you want to get out on the water and try something different, try the River for some festy gills.

Thanks, Bill
