Lake Osakis eyes

There is some good summer fishing going on right now on the lake. Got the opportunity to chase Osakis eyes for the weekend. With the nice hot weather, the early morning and late evening fishing made the most sense. with a nice breeze blowing both days we did extend our morning trips until around noon. then it was time to seek shade.

We started out trolling cranks in serch of fish in weedy bays. Running depths of 8 to 12 ft produced a good catch of eyes and northerns. Both longlining and leadcore both brought fish to the boat. Wallydivers in the perch pattern was the preference for the day. For the late day bite we switched to livebait rigging on the numerous bars. I was a little surprised that this presentation did not produce that well. We boated a good number of fish but most were dinks.

Saturday morning we started off trolling cranks in along the weed edges of various bays. The day started off with a good pike bite and a couple of big fish that we LDR’ed. as the sun rose higher we switched to spinners and livebait rigs along the deeper breaklines of bars. The first pic is a 23.25 incher headed for the net. Right before the fish hit, I marked it on the locator and said to my guests, "there is no way we are going to drag 4 baits past him and not get bit". Trust your electronics.

the next photo is our two best fish of the day. The biggest taped out at 24.5. Both fish were successfully released.

Good fishing and good fishing partners made for a great weekend. see ya on the water, Don.
