Lower Pool 4 Mississippi Walleye Report

Well with the temps still soaring. They made triple digits here yesterday and today at my Place in Wabasha. 100 degrees two days in a row. Boy Thank heavens for airconditioning.

The walleye bite is just as hot as the weather.

This first photo is of Mike with a nice 18 incher he bucktailed of some rip rap.

Read on for more:

With all the heat we were up with the birds this weekend.

On the water at 5:30 am. Off at Noon.

Yesterday we decided to go for a live well full of Bull sunnies. Cause today we are eating a Sunfish dinner.

the panfish have moved out to the channel again, with the water dropping. They seem to be easy pickins.

Sorry I do not do photos of sunnies.

This next photo is of a Mama eye we found this am.

Mike is getting very good with the net. Only needed two swings for this girl.

We have been targeting fish on the 14 to 18 drop offs on the channel edges. We are using 1/16 oz jigs and crawlers.

Our best colors today were blue and red.

The fish are still finicky with the bait like they really do not want it so you have to wait on the hook set.

But once you set the hook look out these fish are ready to tear your arms off. Twice today I thought I had big carp hooked.

This next shot is of Mike with our five eaters.

The Corp has moved the dredge to just below the lower harbor in Wabasha.

Here is a photo of the Thompson.

These are a couple of very large vessles.

When they are at work they put up No-Wake bouys.

However there sure seems to be a bunch of dim wits on the river six boats while I was trying to take photos came throwing huge wakes.

It is the law for you to be responsible for your wake.

Ok I’ll cork the wake issue.

When I'm not fishing or working I'm looking for nitecrawlers...and Tournament Angler for the past 20 plus years.

  1. Mike seems to have bass on his mind.
I just do not know what to do about it.
So I suppose I have to post this photo of this grass carp.
His were finally smaller then mine.

  2. Hey you Walleye guys want to here a good one.
We picked up a new Grass carp bait.
Our new bait is called a horney toad

Now I know why all those bass boats have to go so fast.
They have to keep there toads under control.

  3. Thanks for the report Greg. Always great to seeing you getting the ”young whippersnapper” out fishing. Or maybe I should say that the other way around since he fishes everyday while you are at work. Its great to see the fishing staying good even as we are having very high air temps lately. Always look forward to reading reports and seeing the fish pics from the ”Dynamnic Duo” so keep em comin.
    Thanks, Bill

  4. Thanks Bill,

    take care.
