This is going to be a report part 1 and 2.I’m going to differ from the norm and start with part 2.I has a guide trip with the Krause family who were in the area for the annual "Camp Krause" event.Bo and Oliver were the first 2 who went out with me this morning and it didn’t take long for Bo to get a perch.
I had a great time with Bo and Oliver, they were very fun to fish with.We didn’t catch alot of fish but they ended up with some nice perch, gills, and a few bass. Here is Oliver with a West lake gill.
After these two were done out went Tanner and Elliot.I wanted to get a few smallies for them but we could only get the largemouth and gills to bite. Here is Tanner with a largemouth.
We kept busy and had alot of action. At one time we had 3 bobbers go down all at once.Elliot did get a walleye but it was about a 1/4" short to go in the box.I had a great time with the Krause family and I hope to enjoy fishing with these fine young men again someday. Here is Elliot with a West O bass.
Take care,

Hey Ryan,
. It’s always nice to see the kids catching fish. Keep up the good work and reports.
It sounds like you guys had some fun out there
Before I took the Krause boys out on the water Austin and I got a early start and had a great dawn bite going for a few hours. We found a very active school of perch, gills, and bass and just put the hammer to them.We were in 5-6′ of water and site fished all of these fish using pilkies tipped with wigglers, crawlers, honey worms, and leech’s.Austin had the hot stick. Here he is with a nice 10″ perch.

Whenever we went to a leech we would get the bull gills that are so fun to catch. Here is Austin with a gill that has shoulders!!!

Last fall we had a very good bite on the perch on West O. It was nice to start to get a bunch this early in the year.Austin with a double.

Nice fish as always Ryan! I might have to give Austin and Cole a call and see if they’ll take me out for a guide trip this fall.
Looks like you fella’s had a good day on the water!!
You fella’s must have alot cooler weather up that way Austin in long sleeves and all. Send some of those nice temps down this way!
Wow
Awesome perch and gills Ryan. Thanks for the report also.
Excellent post and pics as always. Good to see your surviving the heat . Take care
Nice job Ryan – are you guys verticle jigging the pilkies or do you cast them and rip them back??? Just curious how they are used – I bet our white bass on the ‘sippi would rip those pretty well. Chuckles
Chuck,I have ripped them before but mostly we fish them vertical.Does color matter at times? I had nice perch below me and he would not hit the blue/sliver pilkie.Dropped a green/silver down and he hammered it.That is why I love to site fish, you can see the fish react to different presentations.
Thanks for the feedback guys.

Thanks for the report Ryan. Always great seeing the kids fish pics. The pics really bring out how happy kids are when they are out fishing. Wish more Dads would take pics of their kids catching fish and post them. [hint hint Dads, you are allowed to post all the fish pics you want]. How do you like the style of bobber that I see in one of the pics. Looks like it should pull under easier with the concaved sides. I have switched to smaller bobbers this year and it really does make a difference in fish caught.
Keep catchin em kids so your Dad can keep postin the fish pics of you guys.
Thanks, Bill
Ryan:
Nice bluegill! Good to see Austin out on the water with you. He’s growing up fast! Take care.

P.S. I remember how hard it is to get a walleye to measure on W. Okoboji!
Hey Tim,nice to hear from you.Hope all is well with you and the family.
We had a guide trip a few weeks back and got a total of 7 legal eyes off of West during the day.Sometimes we hit them, others we struggle.I’ll make sure I tell Austin you say hi.
Take care Tim.
