Lower Pool 4 Mississippi Walleye Report

Don’t you just hate it when work calls you Sunday night to ask, if you would like Monday off!!!!! I just had to say yes!!! I would love the day off.

Then I quick got the boat rigged and called Mike to see if he could fit a day of walleye fishing into his busy schedule. He said yea sure.

So the walleyes have just been on fire down here this past weekend. With the water dropping and you can see down about two feet. Awesome conditions, the best thing most of the Giant Cruiser’s are sleepying in the slips.

This first shot is one of Mike with his favorite fish about an 6 pound Sheepie.

Keep reading to hear about the rest of our day.

This next photo is of a couple of eyes we managed to jig off a 14 foot edge. We again were using 1/16 oz jig with crawlers.

The fish just pick up the jigs and you need to wait before you set the hook or it is a swing and a miss. This is very key info guys. And you got it here for free.

The weather was fantastic today until noon. Then it got real hot. We quit at 2:00 pm. To hot for this ole dude.

This third photo is of a Mama eye we found hanging on the edge of a drop at about 16 feet. This fish came at about 11:30 am. So you nite owls still have a chance at getting the big one, if you want to sleep until 9:00.

It was really nice out with out all the boat traffic.

Man weekends are just a zoo down here anymore.

This last photo is of one of the strongest fighting fish on the river. We caught five of these today. Man my wrists get sore. Poor me Poor me.

One of the good things about today we could fish places that on the weekend you just can not. That made today really fun. We ended our day with 7 legal eyes that might have been close to 30 pounds. I think we had over a 100 pounds of Carp the other Gold fish……

When I'm not fishing or working I'm looking for nitecrawlers...and Tournament Angler for the past 20 plus years.

  1. Here is a picture of the newest vessel in the Army Corps of Engineers St Paul District she is called the Goetz.
The Goetz is 200 plus feet in length. This is a new high tech dredge vessel. Low-emission Diesel engines, and she is equipped with computer- assisted dredging system that will automate dredgeing speed and density, and avoid plugging the lines.
    She is a sharp looker.
The Old Thompson is slated to become a museum near barge harbor in Winona.

  2. WHEN YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT A 16ft EDGE ARE YOU TALKING THE EDGE OF THE MAIN CHANNEL DROPING TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CHANNEL ??

  3. GARVI,
We were fishing rock and sand for these walleyes.
Some rock fingers that protrude out into the channel.
Also some of the sand whoop de doos that taper into the channel and the lake.
We took some fish on the inside turns on these edges.

The thing on the river is everything changes all the time.
The flow and the level is very low here on Pool 4 right now making for some fun fishing. Just becareful out there the rock piles are all hitable now. I know first hand I hit one on Sunday..thought I had enough water to get over it wrong…
    Take care and good fishing
