Lake Mazaska Lilly Pad Bluegills

Flipping bobbers and livebait around the lilly pads on Mazaska Lake in southern Minnesota is where my three grandaughters and I spent the afternoon today. The first pic is my oldest grandaughter Brianna who just turned 13 Thursday.

We started fishing the edges of the pads and there wasn’t alot of action so we moved in the pads more and 5 year old Jaclynn caught this one.

Using a bobber of smaller size with a splitshot and a colored hook with a small piece of nightcrawler was the bait of choice today. Abby who is 4 years old enjoyed catching some fish too.

The farther we moved into the pads the better the bite became. Flipping into the pockets and closely watching your bobber for any movement was needed further in the pads. But the carefull paying attention paid off with more fish even on the light bites that took place at times. These sweethearts sure know how to win grandpas heart [fishing].

Thanks, Bill

  1. Yes Tommy. Would you like to catch some bluegills too or some kind of other fish? Are you coming to the get together? Brianna and I look forward to seeing you again.
    Thanks, Bill

I love when you report about taking your grandchildren out to fish.

Its ALOT of fun taking them fishing. I caught the first one and ever since that happened they got antsy [sp] to catch fish too. Surprised me as the little ones really got fired up to catch fish. After awhile I put away their ”Princess” and ”Scobbydoo” fishing poles and I would catch one and hand my pole to them as we caught alot more fish faster that way. They really loved it. Brianna is getting pretty good at catching her own bluegills. I have to get her out more often.
    Thanks, Bill

  3. Oh yeah, nice string Sweet William. Mazaska has always been good to me for panfish. I would love to join you sometime over there. I might even have a little trick to help you boat more and bigger ones. Just a different approach to catching panfish not only in Mazaska but any of the lakes over that way, especially Roberds and French. My top three in the Faribault area, Roberds, Mazaska and then French in that order.
