Bass Fishing on Lake Wisconsin

I spent the last two days fishing on Lake Wisconsin and the area just upstream from the lake with my dad this weekend. We targeted walleyes and saugers on Saturday and I fished for bass on Sunday.

On Saturday, we managed to catch three small saugers on the river while we dodged boat traffic. We were casting cranks to rocky shorelines along the river in 8-10 feet of water. The saugers were not relating to any recognizable cover. All in all, it was a rather uneventful day of fishing, but it was great to be on the water with my father again.

On Sunday, I spent the the day targeting bass on the lake and river. I started out swimming a Brovarney swim jigs, in Ruppe’s Craw color, in emergent weeds. I caught three largemouths this way then decided to spend the rest of my day chasing smallies up on the river. I was pitching a jig and pig to isolated wood cover in 5 feet of water in areas of moderate current. I boated three nice smallies with the largest being just over 18 inches the next largest was 17 and the last just over 15. All in all not a bad day on the water.

I hope that you can have a oppertunity to experience this body of water for yourself if you have not already. It can be a very challenging body to fish for bass, and it has an a great walleye population for those interested in them. As I stated before, I believe this is a sleeper of a lake for muskies as well. I caught one again this weekend while swimming a jig for bass. All in all, I have landed four muskies in my boat this year alone and have had a few others follw. Give it a try sometime. If you are new to the lake/river give me an email and I will be happy to help you however I can.

  1. I second the opinion on Lk WI. I fished it over Memorial Day and was surprised on how good the fishing was. My buddy has a home on Fishing Hot Spot’s location #5. Nice weedbed. I caught several saugers that were over 16″ by dragging a K-grub through weeds and nailed LM bass also. Great fishery.
